Consultant- Insurance Services

About the position

  • CIAT is looking to engage an insurance professional for one year as a service provider on a consultancy basis to provide on-going support on an ‘as-needed’ basis to the Alliance. The successful candidate/firm will work closely with the Legal Office with the main objective of providing advisory services in the setting up of a comprehensive insurance program for The Alliance in Africa. 

Key Activities and Deliverables​

The Service Provider will assist The Alliance in developing a comprehensive insurance program for the Africa Region which will include:

  • Working with the Alliance to identify the necessary insurances for The Alliance in Africa.
  • Assist in drafting Request for Proposals for brokerage services for the insurances identified.
  • Assist in evaluating bids received from insurance brokerage firms.
  • Provide advice on insurances recommended by the brokers identified. The service provider will assist in checking that the bids sourced by brokers provide the required cover and are good value for money.
  • Assist in reviewing insurance policies and ancillary documents from insurance providers to ensure that the policies provided the desired cover.
  • Assist in responding to queries from third parties, including donors, on the existing insurance program, and attending meetings where necessary.
  • Provide advisory service on changes in law or government directives that may affect our insurance plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus a relevant certification in insurance
  • At least 10 years’ experience working for an insurance brokerage firm or an insurance company

Project Coordinator

About the position

  • The Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Project Coordinator for the Embe projects.

Key duties & responsibilities 

  • Manage day to day project activities, including partner engagement, for the Project
  • Interview potential partner companies and lead selection activities.
  • Co-write partner selection manuscript with our Researchers.
  • Manage data analytics processes between Partners and Alliance staff
  • Conduct technical development of data collection instruments, literature reviews, whitepapers, slide decks and other presentation materials.
  • Conduct technical reviews of project outputs and development to provide creative solutions to engagements.
  • Act as the in-country point of contact for partners where applicable. 
  • Manage projects toward timelines for deliverables and reports. 
  • Present at relevant forums including conferences, networking events, or client meetings.
  • Attend relevant internal brainstorm sessions. 
  • Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the project supervisor.
  • Travel up to one time per month.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social science Field or Business, with preference for economic or political economy.
  • Experience working on SME partner selection and behavioral data analytics project in Kenya.
  • At least 4 years of previous work experience in agriculture, agriculture economics, natural resource economics, development economics or behavioral economics, with experience managing large scale research and consulting projects in developing countries.
  • Strong qualitative, quantitative, research, and data analytic skills.
  • Experience in data analysis, including knowledge of and experience working with software such as R, Python, Matlab or Stata.
  • Ability to quickly understand and adapt to new contextual situations. 
  • Ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player.
  • Interest and experience working in a fast-paced team within a large research institution.
  • Fluency and excellent communication and writing skills with a mastery of English.
  • Experience with agriculture risk management frameworks or risk modeling for credit or insurance is preferred but not required.
