Training Consultant on SCP and Waste
Specific tasks and responsibilities
Ludgarde Coppens, The Head Of The SDGs And Environment Statistics Unit (UNEP/ Early Warning And Assessment Division), The Consultant Has The Responsibility To Conduct The Following Activities
Under the direct supervision of Ms.
- Prior to country mission, the consultant has the responsibility to:
- 1 Prepare an inception report outlining a comprehensive desk review of the national context for SDG indicators 12.2.1; 12.2.2; 12.4.2 and 12.5.1, including data availability and requirements, list and contacts of key stakeholders to engage with;
- 2 Develop a step-by-step document and calculation/working sheets for each SDG indicator, including necessary information on the source of data, responsible entity and embedded formulae to calculate the indicators
- 3 Develop appropriate technical material to be presented in countries, in English, in collaboration with UNEP, by using existing technical resource materials.
- In-country mission, the consultant has the responsibility to:
- 1 Convene relevant stakeholders and conduct a hands-on training using the prepared technical material in collaboration with UNEP and relevant national entities;
- 2 Guide government officials in identifying appropriate data and calculating relevant indicators.
- Upon completion of the country mission, the consultant has the responsibility to:
- 1 Prepare mission report, in English, with the following criteria, among others:
- Inception report and assessment of the situation
- Activities undertaken in each country, including presentations, list of government officials and entities engaged with
- Obtained results
- Lessons learnt and best practices.
- Annexes: all prepared material relevant to the mission.
Qualifications/special Skills
- A Master’s degree in Environmental Science is a required. A doctoral degree is desirable.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible training experience on environmental and sustainable development issues is required.
- Experience in the UN system and in a government/intergovernmental setting is desirable.
- Proven expertise and experience in working with countries to enhance their technical and statistical capacities.
- Proven expertise and experience in working on sustainable consumption and production for sustainable development.
Languages
- English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in Arabic, French or Russian is desirable.
Intern – Environment Affairs, I
Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the COBSEA Coordinator, the intern will work on the implementation of activities related to supporting Regional Seas activities in East Asia:
- organization of meetings and events, including upcoming COBSEA Intergovernmental Meetings (IGM26), meetings of the Working Group on Marine Litter, consultation meetings for the Marine and Coastal Ecosystems, and regional/international events as well as technical/project meetings and workshops
- implementation of activities pertaining to the COBSEA Strategic Directions 2023-2027
- development of the new COBSEA Strategic Directions 2023-2027
- internal as well as external communication, including public outreach, generating content for use on the website, in newsletters, outreach materials, presentations etc.
- support other tasks or activities as required and in accordance with the intern’s interests.

- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) OR
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation

FINANCE AND BUDGET ASSISTANT, G6
Responsibilities
1. BUDGET:
•May act as Certifying Officer on behalf of and in the absence of programme managers at offices outside of headquarters.
•Providing support with respect to the review, analyses and preparation of the medium-term plan and its revisions.
•Preparing supporting documents (narrative and supporting tables) with respect to finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals, in terms of staff and non-staff requirements.
•Assisting managers in the elaboration of resource requirements for budget submissions.
•Undertaking research and providing support to higher level Finance and Budget Officers with respect to budget reviews of relevant intergovernmental and expert bodies.
•Monitoring expenditures and comparing with approved budget; preparing adjustments as necessary.
2. CLAIMS:
•Reviewing, analyzing and preparing payments to third-parties, commercial entities, with respect to settlement of certified death and disability, contingent-owned equipment, stores, pay and allowances, and letters of assist claims.
3. TREASURY:
•Monitoring/reviewing methods used to remit payments and supervises investigation of nonreceipt of payments.
•Assisting cashier in the daily operation of the Cashier’s Unit responsible for the transmittal of payments worldwide.
•Reviewing incoming payment instructions with regard to banking details and sources of funds.
•Preparing payments for final disbursement by Cashier.
•Dispatching payment instructions and cheques to banks.
•Creating receipts and deposits for all incoming funds.
•Notifying payees of status of payments.
•Assisting staff members, Fund Management Officers and donors regarding queries on payment and deposit-related issues.
•Identifying and annotating bank account movements.
•Monitoring bank balances worldwide.
•Assisting Cashier in cash management and investment issues, including cash flow forecasts.
•Liaising with banks worldwide regarding outstanding items and payment instructions.
•Investigating complaints of non-receipt.
•Monitoring cheque stock and ordering new stock as required.
•Filing and archiving as required.
4. GENERAL:
•Keeping up to date on documents/reports/guidelines that have a bearing on matters related to programme, ensuring compliance with intergovernmental recommendations and decisions as well as with United Nations policies and procedures.
•Drafting or preparing correspondence to respond to inquiries in respect to relevant financial and budget matters.
•Maintaining and keeping up-to-date files.
•Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
•Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
•May be responsible for providing guidance, training and daily supervision to other general service staff in the area of responsibility.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience in finance, budget, accounting,
administrative services or related area is required.
Experience working in an international organization is desirable.
Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems especially focusing on the cleanup of receivables balances in the UN ERP System (Umoja), is desirable.
One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is a desirable.
