Artisan Technician-(Masonry)
ADVERT NO: GaU/HR/EA/6/23: ARTISAN TECHNICIAN (MASONRY)- ONE (1) POSITION
- We are looking for a qualified Mason to join our team, who will work in various construction, repairs and maintenance sites in the university on casual terms.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Mix cement and mortar on the job site as needed
- Carrying out inspection of minor repair works required in university facilities;
- Costing of minor repair works;
- Use equipment and tools to safely perform basic construction tasks
- Setting out ordinary plans according to the drawings;
- Preparing materials for construction accordingly; and
- Carrying out actual constructions as and when required as directed by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT: –
For appointment to this position, a candidate must possess the following qualifications and competencies: –
- KCSE D+ or equivalent.
- Passed Government Trade Tests I or Craft II Certificate in the relevant Trade
- Three (3) years of relevant work experience.
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in previous work experience.
Artisan Technician (Carpentry and Joinery)
ADVERT NO: GaU/HR/EA/7/23: ARTISAN TECHNICIAN (CARPENTRY & JOINERY) – ONE (1) POSITION
- We are looking for a qualified Carpenter to join the team in construction, repairs and maintenance of various university facilities, furniture and fittings on casual terms.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Fix broken/damaged wooden furniture and fittings within the university
- Reading blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
- Taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed
- Cutting, shaping and smoothing timber and other material according to measurements
- To cut, fabricate and install wooden and other structures according to specifications
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT: –
For appointment to this position, a candidate must possess the following qualifications and competencies: –
- KCSE D+ or equivalent.
- Passed Government Trade Tests I or Craft II Certificate in the relevant Trade.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in previous work experience.
Artisan Technician (Painter)
ADVERT NO: GaU/HR/EA/8/23: ARTISAN TECHNICIAN (PAINTER) – ONE (1) POSITION
- We are looking for a qualified Painter to paint the interior and exterior of structures, buildings and other surfaces in the university, particularly construction, repairs and maintenance sites on casual terms.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary
- Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
- Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
- Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster)
- Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right colour or texture
- Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools and apply varnish and other finishes
- Calculate costs and negotiate prices
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT: –
For appointment to this position, a candidate must possess the following qualifications and competencies: –
- KCSE D+ or equivalent.
- Passed Government Trade Tests I or Craft II Certificate in the relevant Trade
- Three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in previous work experience.
