Deputy Chief of Party, USAID Kenya Private Sector Activity
Core Responsibilities
- Lead strategy development and implementation of investment and transaction activities that will generate interest and partnerships in the agriculture and health sectors.
- Develop and manage the Activity’s team of transaction and investment focused staff and partners.
- Work with partners to design innovative and scalable investment tools and facilities.
- Engage with governments and financial institutions (lending banks, MFIs, private equity, investment funds, development finance, and foundations) to facilitate greater access to financing and catalogue the innovations in risk sharing and blended finance that can be replicated with partners in the region.
- Manage the coordination and technical aspects of subcontractor and grantee activities related to investment opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with financial institutions and private sector partners.
- Support the documentation of key lessons in order to improve Activity performance and impact.
What We Value
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, or a related field and at least 15 years of experience OR MBA/Master’s and at least 12 years of relevant experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role.
- Investment experience, such as working in capital investment, trade, agriculture development, health financing, blended finance, and impact investment.
- Demonstrated experience in private sector development and working with private sector companies, financial institutions, SMEs, and public sector stakeholders to create win-win solutions.
- Experience successfully supporting business expansion and capital mobilization.
- Experience working in Kenya and strong understanding of the Kenyan financial landscape required.
- Experience working with USAID-funded projects preferred.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, including writing and editing. Fluency in Swahili required.

Finance & Administration Director, USAID Kenya Private Sector Activity
Core Responsibilities
- Provide managerial and operational support to the Chief of Party, by overseeing project finance and accounting, operations, grants management, IT and human resources and ensuring compliance with USAID regulations
- Oversees the development of administrative and operations management systems and processes required to support activity implementation, ensuring compliance with USAID and Abt policies and regulations.
- Manages implementation of financial, administrative, and HR policies and procedures that meet activity needs and corporate and client requirements.
- Oversees financial planning and analysis of program activities including forecasting and budget tracking; labor planning; and monitoring of burn rate.
- Ensures compliance with USAID and Abt Associates policies, regulations and procedures governing the activity contract.
- Oversees procurement efforts for the activity including selection and negotiation with vendors, and management of grants and subcontractors on the activity in compliance with USAID and Abt Associates procurement regulations.
- Participates in negotiations with USAID on contract issues and actions and follow up on donor requests and concerns.
- Oversees grants administration and supervises the grants management team.
- Oversees personnel management in coordination with the COP and DCOP, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, and offboarding.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field and at least 15 years of experience in operations, finance, and administration for large-scale international development programs OR Master’s and at least 12 years of relevant experience.
- At least 5 years of experience supporting and managing operations for USAID-funded programs.
- Experience in Kenya and/or East Africa managing finance, grants under contract (GUC), administration and operations functions for an international donor funded program.
- Demonstrated experience in procurement.
- Expertise in USAID Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
- Experience directly supervising a team consisting of grants, finance, HR, and other administrative staff.

Communications Director, USAID Kenya Private Sector Activity
Core Responsibilities
- Create and lead the execution of internal and external communications strategies for the Activity.
- Lead and oversee production and submission of deliverables and communications products, including but not limited to, success stories, technical briefs, press releases, videos, and major presentations for external audiences.
- Collaborate with technical team members to generate original written content for project reports, other technical deliverables, and external communication products.
- Oversee the dissemination of communication products, ensuring target audiences are reached.
- Develop protocols and mechanisms for consistent communications with key external stakeholders about project accomplishments and respond promptly to inquiries.
- Create and manage any Activity social media accounts.
- Maintain databases of Activity documents, project, and media contacts in coordination with technical teams.
- Support editing of key project documents and deliverables.
What We Value
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field and at least 12 years of experience OR Master’s and at least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing effective communications strategies, including identifying compelling stories, connecting with diverse audiences, distilling technical language into user-friendly formats, collaborating with production teams, and adhering to deadlines and short turn-around times.
- Experience working in Kenya and strong understanding of the Kenyan media landscape required.
- Experience working with USAID-funded projects and familiarity with USAID branding highly preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, including writing and editing. Fluency in Swahili required.
