Insurance Business Development Manager, VisionFund International, Africa

Key Responsibilities

Strategy development:

  • Map potential insurance partners and products and potential distributing partners
  • Conduct research and analysis of market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to inform business strategies
  • Create and implement marketing and business development strategies tailored to the needs of the population we want to serve and especially farmers under Thrive

Insurance business development

  • Put together measures that would coordinate the analysis of the insurance client needs in order to define products that will serve their needs.
  • Drive business case analysis for different insurance product types within MFI, WV NOs and other partners.
  • Maintain customer relationship with partners and hand over to the operational team when the implementation is on track

Insurance product development

  • Ensure insurance product design activities within VFI bring to a practical and cost-effective conclusion by gathering qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ensure inputs from other specialists is driven towards practical solutions that will work and for the poor.
  • Interact effectively with a very diverse range of stakeholders serving to deliver insurance products

Reporting

  • Reports for VisionFund global, regional.
  • Assist local management to report to their boards on key insurance projects.
  • Be responsible for quality reports for Insurance program implementation within MFI and VFI

Knowledge, skills and experience

Preferred

  • Technical insurance qualifications are a significant added plus.
  • Experience in health insurance company would be a clear asset.
  • Masters or MBA preferred.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, international relations, accounting or other relevant subject.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience: at least 5 years of experience in business development in SME/ micro-banking, insurance, or microfinance.
  • 1-2 years experience in partnership distribution. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in developing countries of managing insurance projects (client engagement, implementing insurance operations in partnership (bancassurance), designing clear plans for countries, and getting results in different contexts). And 2 years cross country experience
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Hands-on, “can do” approach. Someone who gets things done and has a track record of achieving results working with others remotely.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills including cross-culturally.
  • A clear communicator with excellent presentation and negotiation skills.

Languages and Travel

Key Responsibilities:

Staff Facilitation

  • Timely Facilitation of staff to and from work and to other official duties.
  • Ensure safety of staff and vehicle while on journey
  • Ensure mobilization of additional vehicles and drivers to facilitate key events such as major donor visits, campaigns, evaluations and baselines

Project Officer – Advocacy for Increasing Investment to End Sexual Violence Against Children in Kenya (AIESVAC) Project

Key Responsibilities:

Contribute towards increased government investments in the prevention of sexual violence against children in Kenya.

  • Conduct meetings and advocacy activities targeting to equip CSOs and other key stakeholders to influence national budgets and disseminate results of the Safeguarding Childhood Report and also conduct Dissemination of FY 2024/2025 approved government budget for child protection (including prevention and response to SVAC) to children, civil society organizations and religious organizations.
  • Conduct meetings to assist Children representatives and CSO representatives to prepare child protection national budget priorities.
  • Facilitate meetings for Children and CSO representatives with the cabinet secretary responsible for finance to present child protection budget priorities
  • Conduct follow up meetings targeting at least 40 persons with the National Treasury to ensure that the Child Protection budget priority needs have been factored and to disseminate results of the safeguarding childhood report.
  • Support meetings for Children representatives and CSO representatives with the National Assembly committee responsible for child protection and the committee responsible for budget appropriation to present child protection budget priorities.
  • Support  follow up meetings with the National Assembly committee responsible for child protection and budget appropriation to ensure; child protection issues are at the forefront of budget discussions & decision-making processes and child protection budget priorities are factored in.

Improving coordination and stronger advocacy for increasing national investment in the prevention of sexual violence against children among the major international organizations

  • Strengthen Collaboration with child protection actors and major international organizations to influence policy makers to increase investment in ending SVAC. This will be achieved through;
  • Conducting a comprehensive analysis targeting at least 55 organizations to identify major organizations working in the field of preventing SVAC or review the relevance of these organizations.
  • Support consultation and coordination meetings of organizations working in the field or preventing SVAC and assist them to continuously advocate for transparency and accountability in the use of government budget meant for prevention and response to SVAC

Child protection related advocacy media engagement

  • In consultation with the WVK communications team, conduct Media engagement (TV, Radio, Newspaper, social media) to profile and make visible Child Protection needs and budget priorities.

Resource mobilization

  • Provide information to advise fund raising initiatives for programs related to; Child protection and participation.
  • Supports the identification, development, and maintenance of relationships with current donors and potential donors especially if this is related to advocacy and child protection.
  • Supports the development teams of proposals and strategies to achieve grants, including the preparation of technical proposals, capacity statements and concept papers in regard to advocacy and child protection.

Other

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor or designee from time to time.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required professional Experience

  • Three or more years of verifiable experience in child protection & political advocacy.
  • In-depth knowledge of the child protection legal frameworks, situation, mechanisms, problems, and child protection services in the country.
  • Hands-on experience on; Government Budget Engagement and Influence, Government Budget Analysis & Budget tracking, Engagement in Parliamentary (Legislative) affairs and public policy analysis.
  • Proven experience in working with networks and coalitions.
  • Excellent communication and networking capacities.
  • Must be a committed Christian who is able to stand above denominational and cultural diversity challenges.
  • Excellent oral and written communications, team player, and proficient in English and Kiswahili.
  • Strong public speaking, writing and interpersonal skills.

Required Education, Training, License, Registration and Certification

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences preferably in child development, child protection, child rights, public policy, law, sociology / social work or other related discipline.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Proven ability in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating child protection and advocacy programmes.

Community Mobilizer – THRIVE Project

Key Responsibilities:

Project planning and implementation

  • Coordinate effective and timely implementation of all interventions outlined under Empowered Worldview, Savings for Transformation, Local Value Chain development and any other related and cross cutting programme activities in the project.
  • Participate in the preparation of overall work plan and budget as well as develop activity plans and budgets for technical support of local value chain development interventions.
  • Support in the mobilization and registration of the Households.
  • Participate in developing different levels of progress report (weekly updates, situational reports, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports)
  • Supporting Project Quality Assurance (PQA) through organizing and supporting monitoring visits on L&R interventions.
  • Collaborate with relevant ministries and other relevant partners at the County and community levels to ensure integration and high-level implementation of the planned THRIVE Project activities.
  • Work closely with relevant authorities to ensure all economic recovery and market systems interventions deployed in the communities are in alignment with L&R in emergency Standards
  • Work together with other staff/ to ensure that key trainings meet the standard required to facilitate, provide knowledge and reinforcement of desired L&R behaviour and practices.
  • Ensure that business processes, standards and guidelines related to Livelihood & resilience initiatives are effectively applied in project implementation.
  • Make technical input into the planning and design of project specific operational researches, including baseline and end line evaluation, post distribution monitoring related to L&R.
  • Conduct continuous activity and budget analysis to ensure adherence to the approved work, budget and procurement plans.

Technical support

  • Support in the training of the households on Empowered worldview and tracking on the implementation of the Household Economic plans.
  • Support Training of S4T groups on using Dream save applications.
  • Support Continuous Coaching and Mentoring of the S4T groups and reporting
  • Link the S4T groups to other support services.
  • Work with communities and relevant stakeholders to identify key on-farm and off farm value chains to support
  • Support project market research on viable value chains
  • Ensure the target communities are mobilized and participate in the identified Local Value Chain Interventions
  • In consultation with other staff, government and partners sensitize and mobilize the communities to form Project Implementation units, producer groups
  • Support produce aggregation and marketing activities of the project
  • Work with Project Officer, local stakeholders and leaders to identify community champions/resource persons for LVCD, Empowered World View and Digitization of farmer records
  • In consultation with other staff develop capacity assessment tools for producer groups and develop a capacity development plan
  • Facilitate the capacity building of the partners and farmer groups on LVCD activities (Climate Smart Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, post-harvest management and value addition, transformational leadership)
  • Facilitate linkages of the savings groups to FAST product to enhance their performance
  • Ensure cross cutting themes are integrated into LVCD interventions
  • Provide technical support and timely feedback to the Project Manager on the Empowered world view, Savings for Transformation, FAST and LVCD interventions outlined in the THRIVE project.
  • Organize meetings with key local value chain actors and farmers to forge effective support of the LVCD interventions
  • Ensure adult and child safeguarding during the implementation of the planned interventions

Quality assurance -Monitoring, Reporting, evaluation and Documentation

  • Ensure the community champions (LVCD, EWV and S4T) have necessary monitoring tools and are trained on the same
  • Develop project monitoring and reporting schedules in collaboration with the various stakeholders
  • Work with the community champions/facilitators to continuously train, monitor and mentor the performance of S4T and producer groups along identified value chains
  • Clean and Collate project performance data and ensure it is keyed into the relevant Monitoring Information System (MIS) on a monthly basis
  • Prepare weekly updates, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual progress reports
  • Documentation of key lessons learnt and successes stories from the target farmers
  • Continuously track progress of planned activities and outputs in the detailed implementation plan to ensure timely and quality implementation of plans
  • Support Monitoring and evaluation of THRIVE activities in coordination with M&E and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support farmer records digitization process and performance tracking in collaboration with community resource persons and relevant private actors
  • Together with farmers, partners, conduct regular reflection and learning events
  • Support the project data collection during baseline, end line, market assessments and post distribution assessments

Strategic Engagement, Partnership and Networking

  • Represent World Vision in key L&R stakeholder forum/meetings and relevant networks at the Ward, Sub-County and County levels.
  •  Facilitates linkages of the S4T and farmers groups to micro-finance institutions and skills development institutions
  • Strengthen partnerships with the county government and other partners for effective support and capacity development of the farmers for sustainability

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Technical Education, Skills and Experience required:

  • Must have a minimum of a Diploma certificate in agriculture/Agricultural economics/ Developmental Studies or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with communities in either relief or development Livelihood and Resilience/Food security projects
  • Excellent English communication skills (both oral and written) with a good understanding the local dialect and context
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Lotus Notes (or another main email system such as Microsoft Outlook)
  • A team player, capable of building the community capacity in economic recovery aspects
  • Ability to take initiative, a team leader able to work with minimum supervision
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and emotional maturity
  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts
