Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

This position will be pivotal in enhancing financial controls, managing donor fund reporting, identifying potential risks, and fostering transparency across all financial activities within the organization. He/She will oversee financial operations for multiple programs, including hospital services, schools, colleges, and community-based activities, all funded by various donors. In collaboration with departmental assistant accountants, the accountant will support the operations of other departments, ensuring compliance with financial policies, procedures, and donor regulations.

KEY  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.1
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Monitor and manage the organization’s financial performance against budgets.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial control procedures.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making

Budget Management and Grant Administration

  • Support the development and monitoring of organizational budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and grant requirements.
  • Manage grant budgets, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Track and report on grant expenditures, ensuring accurate allocation and utilization of funds.
  • Collaborate with program managers to ensure effective budget management and financial reporting.
  • Support in proposal development and budgets for different departments.

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Provide mentorship, and guidance to the department’s assistant accountants
  • Coach and mentor non-finance staff on financial management best practices
  • Promote a culture of financial accountability and transparency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Level of Education/Academic Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance) from a recognized university.

Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPAK) qualification is mandatory.

Other Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Office.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, and with multiple concurrent demands.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A team player with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.

Relevant Job Experience

  • At least three and half (3.5) years of relevant experience as an accountant preferably in the non-profit sector.

Internal Auditor and Compliance Officer

JOB SUMMARY

This position will be pivotal in spearheading our organization’s audit and compliance functions. The Internal Auditor and compliance officer will be pivotal in enhancing transparency, mitigating risks and fostering a culture of accountability.

KEY  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct comprehensive internal audits to ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, and financial and statutory regulations.
  • Document and provide recommendations for action by management.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and refining internal control procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Follow through on implementations of internal and external audit generated management actions.
  • Consolidate a BOH enterprise risk management register, identify potential risks and recommend actionable mitigation strategies.
  • Audit donor-funded projects and ensure adherence to specific expenditure and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior management to provide insights on audit findings and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and other statutory requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Level of Education/Academic Qualification
