How can you make a difference?

The efficiency and efficacy of the Accounting & Finance Associate directly impact on the optimum, appropriate and effective use of resources and efficient financial recording, accounting and reporting, which in turn facilitates management oversight, decision making and quality control.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Financial Reporting: prepare and assist with reports, data compilation, and queries to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  2. Local Finance Focal Point: verify invoices, calculations, and submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).
  3. Record Maintenance: monitor and reconcile expenditures, balances, and payments for day-to-day transactions.
  4. Data Management: select, verify, and enter data from diverse sources, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  5. Recurring & Special Reports: prepare scheduled and ad-hoc reports for audits, budgets, and other needs.
  6. Year-End Accounts: support account closure and assist in preparing year-end financial statements.
  7. Staff Advisory: provide guidance to staff and consultants on allowances, claims, and other financial matters.
  8. Correspondence & Queries: initiate communication to verify data and resolve discrepancies.
  9. Bank Liaison: maintain relationships with local banks, monitor exchange rates, and prepare reconciliations.
  10. Budget Support: prepare cost estimates and contribute to budget analysis and projects.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Completion of Secondary Education is required.
  • Work Experience: Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience in the area of finance and accounting is required.
  • Skills: Ability to create and manage project plans, objectives, and deliverables, while tracking resources (time, budget, team efforts) and identifying potential risks. Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and provide actionable insights for decision‑making. Proficiency in using digital tools, AI-powered platforms, and business systems to analyze, manage, and improve data quality and reporting.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.


Desirables:

  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or local language of the duty station is considered an asset.
  • Professional and/or university courses related to finance, accounting are highly desirable.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is an advantage.

The Accounting & Finance Associate (G-6) position at UNICEF Nairobi offers a starting salary of approximately Ksh 273,000 to Ksh 274,000 per month (roughly $2,100 to $2,125 USD). Source: UN Talent
