Medical/Surgical Nurse
Reports: Nurse In-charge
JOB PURPOSE
Providing high standard of nursing care to all patients in line with the Hospital’s policies and procedures and achieving patient safety goals.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver direct patient care including but not limited to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing interventions through professionalism and high standard of nursing care within the department.
- Advocate for patient needs, rights and preferences ensuring a patient centered approach to care.
- Serve as an expert resource person providing expert nursing care and demonstrate advanced clinical skills and knowledge in nursing practice.
- Engage on a daily basis with doctors and other care providers regarding patients’ plan of care and care solutions with emphasis on a Team-based problem-solving approach to unified approach to patient care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams to coordinate the delivery of comprehensive care.
- Facilitate effective communication between healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to established standards, policies and procedures. Monitor and evaluate quality of care provided, identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Administering treatment to patients a prescribed.
Carry out patients’ proper orientation within the section. - Relay accurate information to clinical staff on a patient’s condition.
- Responding to and reporting any abnormal recordings to the person in charge.
- Respond to emergencies when they arise.
- Labeling and dispatching specimens to laboratory promptly and safely.
- Perform routine nursing duties, prepare for and clear the ward before admission and after discharge.
- Ensure patients basic needs are met (feeding, bathing, change of linen etc.)
- Provide health education to patients to promote health.
- Proper documentation, maintaining proper records, confidentiality and handing over between shifts at all times.
- Identify and address potential risks and hazards in the care environment. Implement preventive measures and promote patient safety initiatives.
- Carry out special outpatient clinic activities (maternal, well baby, OPD).
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor in the line with the job description.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in nursing from a recognized institution. A degree in nursing will be an added advantage.
- At least 2 years’ experience in medical-surgical ward
- Knowledge in computer applications.
- Updated BLS and ACLS training certifications.

Critical Care Nurse
Reports: Nurse In charge -ICU
JOB PURPOSE
Providing high standard of nursing care to critically ill patients in line with the hospital’s policies and procedures and accountable for a shift in the section.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver direct patient care including but not limited to assessment, planning, implementation.
- Carry out specific tests, analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and initiate immediate intervention.
- Engage with doctors and other care providers on daily basis regarding patients’ Plan of Care and Care solutions with emphasis on a team- based problem-solving approach to provide unified approach to patient care.
- Administering treatment plans to patients as prescribed.
- Relay accurate information to clinical staff on a patient’s condition.
- Responding to and reporting any abnormal recordings to the person in charge.
- Labeling and dispatching specimens to laboratory promptly and safely.
- Ensure routine duties are done to prepare and clear the ward before admission and after discharge.
- Provide health education to patients and follow up care.
- Address patients’ complaints and emergencies as they arise.
- Carry out patients’ proper orientation within the section.
- Overall supervision of section activities in an assigned shift.
- Mentor junior nurses in the hospital and students attached in the department.
- Any other duty assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN).
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing. A degree in Nursing will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a critical care unit post-KRCCN training and licensure.
- Valid BLS/ACLS certification.
