Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN Headquarters in Africa supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordinator System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org).

The post is located in the Facilities Management and Transport Section (FMTS) of UNON. The FMTS oversees the maintenance services (i.e. mechanical, electrical, cleaning, waste management and landscaping) and construction works on the Compound.

Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Assistant and general supervision of the Chief, Facilities Management and Transportation Section (FMTS), the incumbent will perform the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • Drive officials and authorized UN staff to and from various destinations in and around Nairobi.
  • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle including cleanliness, checks on fuel, water, battery, brakes, engine oil, etc. and inform the Senior Logistics Assistant of any defects to the vehicle.
  • Record all trip-details in the vehicle movement log sheet, fuel consumption, defects noted, tyre condition, vehicle tools and other particulars, report when vehicle is due for scheduled service, etc. and ensure that the relevant documents, such as insurance, are valid.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Kenya Highway Code and take prompt action in the event of an accident.
  • Collect and deliver documents as required.
  • Drive UN executives assigned, safely and courteously, including in fast moving convoys.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned.

Education

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job – Specific Qualification

  • A valid National Driver license is required.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressive responsible driving experience is required. Experience in applying the Kenya Highway Code is required.
  • Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organizations is desirable.
  • Experience with the Kenya Government motor vehicle related processes and procedures is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
  • NOTE: “Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ” Knowledge of equals a rating of’ confident” in two of the four areas.
