Veterinary Officer – Nyandarua County

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Implementing the Donkey welfare program in Nyandarua County
  • Plan and execute the FSK disease control model in Nyandarua County.
  • Organize and co-ordinate Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training for veterinary surgeons and Paraprofessionals.
  • Develop budgets and work plans, facilitate implementation and formulate monitoring plans for veterinary program interventions in consultation with Senior Programs Manager and the field team.
  • Conduct training and provide technical advice on veterinary work to target project beneficiaries and project partners following needs assessment/expression of need.
  • Take the lead in Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Assessment of FSK’s animal welfare work in Nyandarua County.
  • Participate and collaborate on campaigns involved in various veterinary and social aspects of the community in development.
  • Develop learning materials for communities on veterinary and livestock production work.
  • Develop proposals and training guide for CBOs and relevant institutions on animal welfare principles.
  • Document FSK’s action on veterinary animal welfare interventions and disseminate the same in workshops, symposiums and journals in line with the donor requirements.
  • Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the donkey welfare project.
  • Any other duty as assigned by the management from time to time.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Have a Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine.
  • Must be registered and retained with the Kenya Veterinary Board and in possession of a valid practicing license.
  • Over 5 years of field-based experience in veterinary medicine practice
  • Ability to share hope and the gospel with communities.
  • Innovative and proactive approach to resolving complex community needs.
  • Must have experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Possess competencies in adult learning facilitation, planning and execution of workshop and training activities.

Field Officer – Baringo County

  • FSK wishes to recruit a competent, born again christian, qualified and result oriented person to fill the position of a Field Officer who will be responsible in coordinating field operations under the Revitalizing Lake Baringo and Bogoria’s Ecosystem: A Collaborative Approach to Ecosystem Restoration Project. The successful officer will be based in Marigat, Baringo County. He/she will report to the Project Manager and will undertake the following key

responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular monitoring to ensure that community-driven projects implemented by groups/ CBOs achieve expected outputs, outcomes, and results.
  • Provide support to Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in proposal development and guidance during project implementation.
  • Ensure that CBOs/group proposals are developed according to the required donor format.
  • Coordinate project activities at the Lake Bogoria landscape among CBOs, other stakeholders working in the area, and the County Government.
  • Facilitate the establishment and/or strengthening of a multi-stakeholder platform (MSP) focused on governance, leadership, effectiveness, and sustainability in the landscape.
  • Liaise with the County Government to align project activities with County priorities and as stipulated in the project documentation.
  • Liaise with respective County Government departments on the status of the project implementation.
  • Identify opportunities for synergy with other Development Partners, County Government and National Government projects and programs, and members of the multi-stakeholder platform (MSP) in the Lake Bogoria landscape.
  • Support in development, review, and updating of participatory community-based monitoring tools.
  • Prepare and submit narrative reports on a quarterly/annual basis for the landscape with input from stakeholders as per agreed-upon reporting frameworks and tools.
  • Support in knowledge management, documentation of success stories and lessons learnt.
  • Organize regular visibility events such as eco-fairs, exhibitions, and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • University degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Environmental Management, Food Security or related field.
  • Minimum of at least 2 years’ experience in a similar position working in ASAL or project management in an NGO setting
  • Experience in project coordination or management, particularly in multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Previous experience in livelihood and resilience projects, able to work with minimum supervision, and deliver results.
  • Familiarity with community development approaches and participatory methodologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proposal development and quality report writing skills would be an added advantage.
  • Ability to ride a motorbike and possession of a valid motorbike license would be an added advantage

Field Officer, Narok Office

  • FSK wishes to recruit a born again Christian, competent, self- motivated, qualified and result oriented person to fill the position of a Field Officer who will be responsible for coordinating the Donkey Welfare programs and taking the lead in curbing the illegal donkey bush slaughter and trade in donkey skin. The officer will be based in FSK Narok Office and will report directly to the Senior Programs Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Implement donkey advocacy and welfare program activities in Kajiado, Narok, Nakuru and Kiambu Counties.
  • Plan and execute the activities as per the work plan in an effective and efficient manner.
  • To identify and establish a multi-stakeholder platform to address the illegal bush donkey slaughter and welfare of donkeys in FSK target areas.
  • Ensure the welfare of donkeys is adhered to especially during movement
  • Work closely with the communities to gather intelligence on the illegal movement and slaughter of donkeys.
  • Work closely with media to sensitize and create awareness on animal welfare and effects of donkey hide trade to community livelihood in line with donor requirements.
  • Participate and collaborate on campaigns involved in various veterinary and social aspects of the community in development.
  • Foster and maintain a cordial working relationship with partners to enhance collaboration on animal welfare and rescue of donkeys.
  • Provide advice and /or training on animal welfare ethics to the community and the public.
  • Work closely with the veterinary departments to ensure compliance on ban of donkey slaughter and trade in donkey hides and skin.
  • Provide accurate progress reports, monthly, quarterly and annual within the required timeframe.
  • Undertake fundraising and proposal developments for veterinary and livestock production work in the target counties.
  • Document all advocacy work implemented by FSK in line with the donor requirements.
  • Provide updates on donkey welfare project monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the donkey welfare project.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the management from time to time.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, BSC animal science or any other related discipline.
  • Must be registered and retained with the Kenya Veterinary Board and in possession of a valid practicing license.
  • Two years’ field-based experience in animal welfare advocacy work.
  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • Be innovative, strategic and proactive in resolving complex community needs.
  • Must have experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting skills.
  • Possess competencies in adult learning facilitation, planning and execution of workshop and training activities.
  • Demonstrate partnership-building, networking, collaboration and representations skills.
  • Ability to share hope and the gospel with communities
  • Successful candidate should be able to persuade, motivate and compel support for key ideas and initiatives by delivering clear well- structured presentations to stakeholders.
