Executive Director

Executive Director’s roles

  • On behalf of the Board of directors implement appropriate strategies, plans and procedures to ensure achievement of the FSK Vision and Mission;
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Management Team so as to ensure delivery of corporate objectives and Programs;
  • Ensure Programme Delivery and quality
  • Ensure programmes respond to contextual needs, using Theory of Change, community centred methodologies, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Ensure qualitative deliverables and robust monitoring/evaluation, reporting and auditing of programmatic activities and financial expenditures, compliance set guidelines including with procurement procedures and risks management aspects of the organization’s framework and design.
  • Take responsibility for fulfilling all contractual terms of grants including compliance that fall under the organization’s portfolio, reporting, procurement, retention of documentation, etc. providing oversight and guarantee deliverables within the contractual timelines and quality standards.
  • Ensure all key programme information is recorded and stored for future retrieval.
  • Make quality checks, at least quarterly, to ensure confidence with the quality of data.
  • Oversee day-to-day administrative matters and establish effective structures, processes and systems to ensure appropriate control over FSK operations;
  • Creating opportunities for FSK geared towards its sustainability as an institution. The executive director is responsible for presenting the annual budget on time and making sure that all other financial tasks are completed in an efficient and timely manner. Lastly, he/she is responsible for protecting the assets of FSK against fraud and financial abuse.
  • Spearhead the establishment and sustenance of networks and partnerships to ensure the FSK ’s financial sustainability through effective financial and resource mobilization strategies;
  • Organization, Staffing, and Recruitment based on needs and as directed by the board, assigning of duties and remuneration of the same accordingly.
  • Hiring and firing of staff following the laid down procedures as established by FSK policy document.

Support the Board of Directors by:-

  • Facilitating discussion on important topics relevant to meetings
  • Keeping them informed of decisions and changes.
  • To ensure that all Departmental heads/branch heads come up with job descriptions for their respective staff and that all staff are fully deployed and productive.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, legal and regulatory requirements and establish mitigation measures against emerging programs, business risks and operational risks;
  • Enhance the Farming Systems Kenya’s public image by promoting and upholding high standards of integrity and governance within the organization and cultivating positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Maintain a conducive work environment that helps attract, retain and motivate employees and foster a culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship.
  • Spearhead resource mobilization strategy for the organization.
  • In consultation with the Board, provide leadership for the advocacy work of the organization
  • FSK official spokesperson together with the chairman of the board consequently serving as the official link between FSK and all external partners and collaborators.

Professional requirements

  • Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree preferably from the field of agriculture or related field from a reputable University or 1st degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience will be considered
  • Appropriate professional experience in a management position preferably within the NGO environment will be an added advantage.
  • Strong programme management, Capacity Development, Strategic Management and
  • Human Resource Management skills.
  • Must be able to manage staff members with vision, motivation and responsibility to excel.
  • Should have a strong financial management, negotiation, planning and budgeting including fundraising skills.

Community Development Officer

following duties:

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide trainings to the groups, CBOs on group dynamics and animal welfare.
  • Assess and identify community capacity gaps, needs and root causes on equine husbandry and management practices and related social-economic needs.
  • Develop and implement interventions to address the gaps, needs and root causes identified above in a sustainable manner.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions, and follow up with relevant adjustments.
  • Continuously implement follow up actions or adjustments on the basis of information gathered from the evaluation above.
  • Explore innovative capacity building methods, tools and techniques that are suitable and sensitive to distinct community groupings, demographics and contexts for sustainable behaviour change.
  • Strengthen community-based structures among target equine owning communities that assure sustainable project interventions.
  • Participate in identification of gaps in and value addition to resource and material requirements related to community engagement.
  • Prepare for and deliver content during planned trainings, ensure learning capacity building road map; matching session plans for each training session; and conduct monitoring visits to follow up on the use of C4A tools.
  • Mentor community animal welfare ambassadors.
  • Participate from time to time in meetings or initiatives with other like-minded stakeholders in animal welfare and livelihoods sectors.
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual Reports.
  • Management of organization funds, accounting and financial reporting as per activities planned and carried out.
  • Organize field days and outreach programs to farmers in collaboration with other stakeholders.
  • Support in fundraising to ensure and support programme growth and project sustainability.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Minimum bachelor degree in community development studies, social work, sociology, agriculture and human Ecology or related area of study
  • Minimum 2 years’ field-based experience in community development, using sustainable and transformative approaches and tools
  • Innovative and pro-active approach to resolving complex community needs
  • Competencies in the application of participatory community approaches
  • Good planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting skills

Project Officer, Nutrition

Responsibilities:

  • Effective Project Planning and Implementation 40%
  • Provide field-level technical implementation leadership on maternal and nutrition
  • Ensure nutrition project implemented as per government and donor guidelines

Quality Assurance – Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation 25%

  • Develop quality reports (Annual, Semi-annul and Monthly Management Reports) in- line with BMZ reporting guidelines;

  • Analyze and utilize Maternal, Newborn and Child Health data and take appropriate programming measures as may apply;

Enhanced Empowerment & Capacity building 10%

  • Capacity Building of CBOs and Committees to be able to effectively manage and sustain Maternal, Newborn and Child Health interventions
  • Capacity building of community members in programming and implementation of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health projects, empowerment and sustainability issues including Empowered World View.
  • Support preparation and conducting Maternal, Newborn and Child Health projects, empowerment and sustainability training sessions.

Advocacy, Engagement, Networking and Partnerships 10%

  • Gather and provide quality feedback and data to be used to develop technical papers and recommendations on key issues for external engagement with decision makers
  • Establish and sustain working relationships with Government Health Departments and
  • Agencies relevant to the programme’s focus area at the Ward, Sub County and County levels
  • Participate in the Annual County Government’s Health Planning and Budgeting process and influence resource allocation to the priority needs of the most vulnerable groups within the Programme Area
  • Ensure that Program participants and partners are kept informed of all the Government laws and policies in respect to the Technical Program being implemented and any changes to government laws, policies and budgets
  • Work with partners and coalitions to engage in advocacy activities with the government structures at the County level, to address the needs of local communities and inform national level advocacy initiatives
  • With support from WVK Work with community groups to utilize advocacy approaches such as Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) and Child Protection Advocacy (CPA) to enable service users and local partners to engage directly with local government service providers to improve the quality of government services for children and to generate information and evidence for use in national level advocacy work.
  • Ensure effective mobilization of community groups, youth and children, empowering them to hold their governments to account
  • Support communities groups, youth and children to engage constructively with duty bearers and service providers to improve access to, and quality of, essential services

Resource Acquisition 10%

  • Provide information to inform fund raising initiatives for Health & Nutrition at all levels
  • Develop timely and accurate funding proposals in line with donor requirements and WVK standards in collaboration with AP Manager and other sector specialists
  • Mobilize the community for community contribution for project intervention

Project integration 5%

  • Ensure project is integrated to existing WVK and FSK projects Others

  • Participate and contribute in committees and task forces at the County and Sub County level

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or its equivalent
  • Minimum three years working experience in a Maternal and Nutrition interventions
  • Registration and Up to date License with KNDI
  • Good understanding of Ministry of health systems, programming models, standards and guidelines Ministries of Health structures at county and national levels
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English and Swahili.
  • Experience of working with National and County government structures
  • Experience in dealing with international donors, international organizations, the corporate sector and/or large multi-mandate development NGOs
  • Computer proficiency in use of MS Office (Excel, word, PowerPoint etc)
  • Training, facilitation, mobilization skills and Good relational, analytical and problem- solving skills.

Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

Responsibilities
Effective Planning and Implementation

  • Develop monitoring and impact indicator for the project success
  • Take lead in planning and execution of M&E related activities for the project as stipulated in the project M&E plan including surveys, evaluations and research
  • Ensure M&E frameworks, tools and techniques are in place for effective tracking of the project indicators performance and results
  • Ensure the project focuses on the right beneficiary as intended.
  • Ensure that business processes, standards and guidelines related to Livelihood & resilience initiatives are effectively applied in project implementation.
  • In liaison with Project Accountant, maintain a Master Project file for all project data, reports, photographs, correspondences, donor reports and documentaries for future reference
  • Ensure timely and effective implementation of all project interventions as well as the successful achievement of proposed outcomes and intended impacts.

Quality Assurance – Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

  • Monitor project interventions in strict adherence to EU, SHA, FSK, Kenya government regulations and other agreed standards.
  • Undertake monitoring visits to the field throughout the project implementation period as needed to support and or supervise data collection or verify data quality
  • Support the Project Officer in compiling quarterly, annual and other reports required by FSK and /or the donor with input from programme team
  • In liaison with the Communication Officer, ensure documentation of case studies and impact stories is done and that accurate project data is utilized for press releases, social media and website among others.
  • Contextualization and utilization of reporting guidelines.
  • Ensure that the project achieves acceptable financial and operational audit results by implementing activities in accordance with established norm and policies
  • Submit timely weekly, monthly and quarterly reports indicating progress for each of the targeted groups
  • Support project staff to manage and maintain an up to date project database system

Enhanced Empowerment & Capacity Building

  • In liaison with the Senior Programmes Manager, identify training needs, develop a capacity building plan and facilitate capacity development of the project staff on project related
  • Monitoring and Evaluation processTogether with SHA project team, conduct regular reflection and learning events

Advocacy, Engagement, Networking and Partnerships

  • Strengthen networking with relevant government departments especially Ministries of Forestry and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, and Water and Irrigation to lobby for their active participation in building relevant structures for sustainability.
  • Ensure that Project interventions are in synergy with other related Programs within the area of coverage for sustainability.
  • Participate in the Baringo County Government’s Planning and Budgeting process and influence resource allocation to the priority needs within the sector.
  • Ensure active engagement on policy at county level on issues to do with the food and nutrition security sustainable use of natural resources.
  • Work with SHA to engage in advocacy activities with the government structures at the County level, to address the needs of local communities.
