Research Associate II
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day implementation of activities related to grazing management and restoration conducted by RHTs in collaboration with MSIPs and local rangeland institutions
- Train RHTs, field staff from CCM and VSF-Suisse, MSIPs, and local rangeland institutions in participatory rangeland management (PRM)
- Contribute to overseeing integrative One Health activities—activities addressing the health of people, livestock and rangelands together—including collection and communication of monitoring information to HEAL, and distribution and dissemination of monitoring information on the ground
- Serve as the primary liaison between ILRI research staff in Nairobi and VSF-Suisse and CCM, MSIPs, and rangeland institutions at the local level
- Support and contribute to ILRI research activities being undertaken at the local level
- Perform any other related duties as may be required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in rangeland management, agriculture, environmental health, environmental hygiene, natural resources sciences or relevant field
- Two years relevant experience with degree or four years relevant experience with diploma
- Experience in implementation of participatory rangeland management (PRM), community-based rangeland management, or similar approaches in rangelands
- Proven experience in conducting trainings in a participatory way for different stakeholders (NGOs, government and communities)
- Very good interpersonal and communication skills
Research Officer -Gender and climate adaptation
Responsibilities
- Support the design and implementation of research related to climate adaptation and social dynamics in households and communities
- Assist in the development of research instruments
- Coordinate and implement fieldwork activities
- Manage and support analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative data
- Contribute to writing of scientific publications and outputs such as policy briefs, working papers and blogs
Requirements
- MSc in social science (geography, anthropology, sociology, or other related field) with an emphasis on gender and/or youth
- 2-3 years’ experience in gender research
- Prior experience conducting fieldwork, collecting and analysing gender data
- Willingness to travel to rural areas to supervise and manage fieldwork
- Capacity to work independently
- Very good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in collaboration with teams and partners from diverse backgrounds, nationalities, and scientific disciplines
- Excellent written and spoken English ability
- Aspiration to learn new skills
- Experience in the following areas is preferred and should be highlighted in the cover letter:
- Familiarity with gender and livestock systems in East Africa
- Experience using mixed methods approaches
- Familiarity with social differentiation and intersectionality
- Working in drylands and pastoral contexts
- Experience with climate information services (CIS) and climate smart agriculture (CSA)
