Research Associate I – Farmer-led Adaptation and Participatory Action Research at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with site identification and identification of pioneer farmers.
- Organize and facilitate project activities, including farmer field days.
- Conduct and support data collection activities with the help of supervisor (such as household surveys, semi-structured interviews, FGDs and workshops) including supporting the citizens science data collection.
- Maintain partnership with local leadership and county extension officers including strengthening new pioneer knowledge networks and collaborating with extension officers and project partners.
- Write activity reports and preparation and analysis.
- Keep the supervisor updated about the progress, continuous reporting, maintenance of project data filing system, attendance of (online) meetings and high responsiveness to supervisor requests on data delivery.
- Maintain up to date filing systems.
- Transcription and translation of interviews.
- Frequent travel to farms, with considerable distance from main road
- Any other relevant duty assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s with at least 1 year work experience in experience research in social sciences, development studies, extension, or equivalent experience
- Diploma in relevant field with three years relevant experience
- Background in social research, participation, climate change and adaption, extension, interdisciplinary understanding of both social and basic bio-physical sciences
- Solid training in qualitative and understanding of quantitative approaches.
- Experience with conducting participatory research and stakeholder engagement in rural context.
- Experience in data analysis and interpretation for both basic qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Experience with use of NVIVO, R or STATA as a plus.
- Strong aptitude at interpreting, synthesizing, and communicating the results of data analysis to various types of audiences.
- General experience in social research, climate change and adaptation, biodiversity, farmer-led scaling.
- Good communication and networking skills
- Based in Rift Valley with sound work experience in Nandi and Bomet Counties.
- Fluency in English and Swahili, and preferably also Kalenjin.
Program Manager
Responsibilities
- Provide overall management of the program in line with donor guidelines to achieve project objectives.
- Work with IFPRI-HarvestPlus HQ and country offices to develop overall project plan, annual and quarterly work plans
- Ensure project success through high-quality technical leadership and oversight.
- Lead team to ensure proper coordination and guidance among national/local government, partners, community partners, NGOs and other key stakeholders.
- Support the development of strong M&E mechanisms, program monitoring tools and efficient systems to ensure high quality implementation.
- Direct transparent communications with partners, including negotiating scopes of work, addressing requisite revisions in programmatic work, and troubleshooting issues that may arise.
- Establish compliance with donor regulations and IFPRI-HarvestPlus guidelines.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant area of expertise preferred, such as agriculture or international development.
- Minimum of seven years of professional experience designing, managing, and implementing large and complex development programs.
- Program Management Certification
- At least five years of senior program experience working and living in a developing country, ideally in East Asia or Africa.
- Strong project management skills, including effective communication and decision-making abilities.
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently, and comfortable in a global team, including working well with team members located in multiple time zones and countries.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to structure analyses that drive strategic decisions
- Prior experience as Project Lead preferred.
- Full fluency in English (verbal, written).
