Senior Accountant
Key roles and responsibilities
- Monitoring of the monthly standard journals and updating of recurrent expenditure of the organization.
- Review of the trial balance and ensuring periodic reconciliations are carried out for intercompany balances, ledger and sub-ledgers and other relevant balances.
- Preparation of the income statement after month end and providing an analysis of the movement of revenues and expenditures.
- Timely filing of entity tax and partner returns and ensuring our compliance with the local authorities with reviews of VAT, WHVAT and WHT returns.
- Preparation of draft financial statements and supporting information for external audits and coordinate the process to completion.
Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:
- A bachelors degree in commerce from a recognized university with a Second Upper Degree/GPA 3.5.
- Must be a CPA finalist or ACCA Qualified.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software programs and broad knowledge of current tax laws.
- Possess a proven and consistent track record for at least five years in accounting and/or finance.
- Be a team player, capable of coaching and developing finance and accounting staff, teachable and open to learning.
- Understanding and knowledge of finance internal controls
- .Quarterly balance sheet preparation for different entities and consolidation with the region for partnership reporting and compliance of bank covenant requirements.
- Maintenance of a fixed asset register and support
- documentation of all the control accounts in the balance sheet.
- Ongoing interactions with business units to identify their needs and mutually develop solutions to meet them and resolve any challenges.
- Consolidation of the annual budgets and a provision of the trend analysis from previous years performance.
- Preparation of all global and ad hoc reports to ensure our compliance with our internal clients and KPMG International.
- Participating in initiatives to develop and/or onboard reporting tools that enhance efficiencies and to also be part of the team developing solutions to ease access of information to users

Fund/Grants Manager – Finance Specialist
Key Role and Responsibilities
Implementing partner financial monitoring and reporting
Position Summary
KPMG East Africa is looking for a Funds/Grants Manager – Finance specialist to support us in fund and grants management including financial monitoring of projects and client engagements in the development sector. He/She will be supporting funds and grants management in our health portfolio across the continent. The role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya but would require occasional travel across Africa.
- Review of implementing partners’ progress reports and verification of information reported therein.
- Perform analysis of financial and programmatic information and make recommendations to clients.
- Conduct implementation verifications and spot-checks on an ongoing basis.
- Review key implementer and sub-implementer’s capacities and systems to implementing Fund/ Grant activities.
- Provide advise on the key implementer and sub-implementer’s compliance with grant/funding agreements.
- To assist clients in safeguarding expenditures related to supported activities by reviewing plans (workplans and budgets) and providing recommendations to clients.
- Assess and report on adequacy of fiduciary controls for financial management of donor funds at implementer level.
- Identify areas of financial risks and propose practical risk mitigation approaches.
- Management and escalation of any financial issues to the Team Leader as they arise in the financial oversight of the partners.
- Plan and coordinate meetings that may be required as part of project implementation between partners and clients, including but not limited to project review meetings, budget modifications discussions, and performance meetings.
- Support IDAS business development activities including strategy, opportunity tracking, proposal writing, lessons learning and thought leadership
Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience of fund and grants management in development programmes across a range of sectoral areas. Candidates with experience in the health sector will have an added advantage.
- A minimum of 9 years of relevant experience working in a financial role, preferably with at least 4 years of post-qualification experience related to:
- financial accounting, with the ability to review and analyse accounting transactions;
- reviewing and negotiating budgets;
- financial management systems, with the ability to review and assess internal controls and financial processes and procedures and provide recommendations for improvement;
- review of financial statements (including income and expenditure statements, balance sheets and cash reconciliation statements); and
- review and interpretation of audit reports.
- Well-developed presentation, proposal and report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
- University degree in Finance/Accounting or a related field. Master’s degree is highly preferred and/or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- An internationally recognised professional finance or accounting qualification – e.g. Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Accountant Certification, Chartered Financial Analyst etc.

Audit Assistants – Central Team
Key roles and responsibilities
- Perform audit support services to audit engagement/client service teams such as checking financial statement figures, audit confirmation processing, audit file creation and close-out.
- Support with end-to-end client engagement acceptance processes, new audit client set up and checks.
- Provide support in mapping of current year trial balances to the relevant financial statement’s captions.
- Provide support with the creation of and roll forward of collaboration sites.
- Ensure a good relationship with audit engagement/client service teams is maintained in the process of performing work. Ensure delivery of the KPMG 7 Star service to all audit engagement/client service teams.
- Deliver allocated work within the required service level expectations as documented in the service catalogue in the Central Team Helpdesk system.
- Maintaining compliance with all firm policies and procedures
Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, IT or related relevant degree course with Second Upper degree/GPA 3.6
- Must have attained a mean grade of B in KCSE, Math and English
- Professional qualifications are not mandatory for the role.
