Mason
Job Summary
The mason is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of masonry structures including walls, foundations, Tile works, Footpaths and Tiles, Paving Blocks and decorative elements in a Building. The mason must possess a strong understanding of masonry materials, tools, and techniques to ensure the structural integrity and quality of the finished product. The Mason (Grade 1) is responsible for repair of masonry fixtures and systems in the locations assigned to him/her within USIU-Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection and Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of masonry structures to identify damage, deterioration, or other issues that require repair or maintenance.
- Preservation Planning: Develop restoration and preservation plans, considering structural integrity, and aesthetic value.
- Repair and Restoration: Perform repair and restoration work on masonry structures, including repointing, brick replacement, cleaning, and repainting as needed.
- Weatherproofing: Apply sealants and waterproofing materials to protect masonry from environmental damage.
- Matching Materials: Select masonry materials that match the original construction to maintain historical accuracy.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Perform preventive routine maintenance and repair work to prevent further deterioration of masonry structures.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of restoration work, materials used, and any history related to the project.
- Safety: Follow safety protocols and regulations to ensure the safety of oneself and others on the job site.
Qualifications /Educational/Professional/experience
- Proven work experience as a Mason or similar role.
- Experience working with other professionals on a construction site.
- Government Trade Certificate in masonry or equivalent preferred from a recognized training institution.
- At least 1 year’s practical experience as a mason.
Basic skills in the following:
- Repair of concrete, terrazzo, plaster and tiles on walls and floors to original state and to the required standard.
- Application of waterproof roofing materials, including bitumen and APP.
- Construction and modification of concrete structures.
- Basic spoken and written English and Kiswahili language skills.

Adjunct Faculty in English Language and Linguistics
Job Summary
The successful candidates will report to the Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS). The incumbent will be expected to teach, research, and engage in community service.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach at the undergraduate/graduate level in the specific areas of specialization as listed above.
- Support and mentor students in their career endeavors.
- Participate in curriculum development activities to ensure that the programs are up-to-date and marketable.
- Participate in program assessment and reviews.
- Engage in research in one’s area of expertise.
- Engage in service to the University, the profession and the community.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience
- PhD in the core areas above.
- Requisite skills in the use of technology in teaching.
