Technical Director – Sponsorship in Programming and Special Projects
Key Responsibilities:
The Technical Director – Sponsorship in Programming and Special Projects will lead Sponsorship in Programming and global change projects that contribute to WV Sponsorship 3.0 efforts to revitalize, renew and reimagine Child Sponsorship. The role will entail organizing and overseeing sponsorship global projects addressing simplification, research, data management, learning and development, cross sectoral and ministry integration, development of standards, guidelines, models, tools and resources for sponsorship in programming and design of performance accountability systems and processes.
This position will provide technical leadership for the Simplification and Engagement Enabled by Digital (SEED) change processes with NOs with the aim of simplifying and enabling field operations digitally for efficiency, improving digital engagement approach and processes for enriched experiences and empowering communities with digital for child well-being.
This position will also provide leadership for Sponsorship in programming especially to advice and support to promote sustained child well-being among children, especially the most vulnerable, in World Vision’s Area Development Programmes supported by Child Sponsorship. The role includes the development of technical guidance for Sponsorship in Programming and integration with LEAP3 and directs SIP learning and knowledge management, and oversees the SIP Learning Network. The position will also contribute to integrated learning and development strategy and implementation strengthening World Vision’s contribution to the well-being of children in World Vision’s Area Development Programmes.
This position will function as part of Sponsorship Capability and Ministry Integration team, and report to the Senior Director, Sponsorship Capability and Ministry Integration. The position will collaborate closely with RO and GC teams for policy design and implementation of emergent directions from special projects. The Technical Director will be part of and routinely advise the Sponsorship learning network and other communities of practice as needed.
Major Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
- Lead and support the development of Sponsorship capability and Integration strategic and planning framework based on Sponsorship 3.0 integrating and harmonizing our efforts.
- Support the Senior Director – Capability and Integration in development strategic and planning processes including support to the formation of multi-year plans focused on Sponsorship 3.0 efforts
- Provide technical support and guidance to development and implementation of integrated sponsorship capacity and change management strategy, contributing to the realization of strategic intent and vision of sponsorship
- Lead and support engagements to provide support to research on sponsorship to further existing efforts for integration, learning and synergy.
Standards and Accountability
- Provide technical advice for revision Sponsorship Management Policy and standards
- Provide technical advice and assist in the review and development of sponsorship quality and accountability definitions, processes and systems aligned to relevant conceptual framework, Sponsorship policy and strategic objectives.
- Facilitate engagements with FO, RO and GC Strategy, PQ and Sponsorship teams and other GC teams as appropriate to establish consistent positioning as relates to Sponsorship policy as in consultation with the Senior Director.
- Facilitate sponsorship strategy, standards and policy research to further efforts for integration, learning and synergy
Simplification and Engagement Enabled by Digital (SEED) Change efforts
- Lead and support implementation of SEED projects with RO and FOs in collaboration with the GC Sponsorship Operations and Engagement team
- Lead business implementation and change management of SEED efforts with necessary business process changes and data quality assurance processes
- Lead scale-out of the sponsorship field operating model as a multi-year change process strengthening integration of sponsorship in frontline staff and volunteers’ roles and alignment of sponsorship roles at the national and regional offices
- Support global scale-out of Horizon mobile enhancements and Child Portal for development including child monitoring, rich media and other sponsorship processes
- Lead integration of sponsorship in the SEED components relating to programme planning and monitoring including tracking and ongoing reporting of RC inclusion and participation
- Provide support to the development of quality assurance frameworks and mechanisms to ensure that the change processes including data have quality and are aligned with global principles and standards
Sponsorship in programming and Impact reporting
- Support strategies for appropriate integration of sponsorship in broad ministry programming including urban, fragile contexts and gender and social inclusion.
- Support CS innovation and research to demonstrate effectiveness of WV’s approach to sustained well-being of children, families, communities and supporters.
- Lead and contribute to development of sponsorship tools, resources and project models in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
- Contribute to Sponsorship innovations, opportunities and initiatives, including repositioning sponsorship and new models of sponsorship (urban, community, family and by contexts).
- Collaborate with other CSMS leaders in an effort to guarantee the delivery of sponsorship data analytics and insights, and reporting services
- Lead Child Sponsorship evidence building and impact reporting efforts in collaboration with OIOS team
Organisational Capability
- Provide high quality technical guidance for design and implementation of individual CB projects related for global projects targeting CSMS and field staff
- Lead and support roll out of sponsorship standards, guidelines and tools
- Support the development of training resources for staff and community volunteers
- Support the development of curriculum and resources for Sponsorship Basic Orientation for all staff
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Master’s degree in development, business administration, economics, statistics, data science, information technology and systems or related field with a strong research emphasis.
- Minimum 7-10 years in a combination of strategy and policy formulation and oversight, fundraising/business development, Programme Quality, programme management, Business Intelligence roles working with multiple projects in international organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence high level strategic and policy directions at organizational level with non-reporting relationships and authority.
- High level skills in DME, with field-based experience in World Vision development programmes. Strong knowledge of World Vision’s Development Programming Approach and experience and / or support its application at the field.
- Additional experience in development programming with other development agencies preferred
- Excellent analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems.
- Critical thinking and capability of generating consistently accurate and useful information to inform strategic planning and decisions.
- Expertise in use of generally accepted project management and DME tools/software applications. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work across cultures, .
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English.
- Highly skilled in research, data analytics and visualization for large datasets.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Training or courses taken in programme design, monitoring and evaluation and/or research with emphasis on using quantitative or qualitative methodologies.
- Solid foundational understanding of sponsorship, development programming and operations in World Vision, including field exposure. Foundational understanding of partner technical and ministry sectors (e.g., child participation and protection, DME, health/nutrition, education, etc.).
- Experience working in a global environment and at all levels of the organization
- Experience managing diverse teams (e.g. cultural, gender, religious), in diverse organizational contexts
- Experience providing strategic and programmatic support to national, regional or field-based operations.
