Child Protection Associate – 2 Posts
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Child protection associate will assist in providing social interventions and assistance to the most at-risk and vulnerable refugee clients and children. The Associate will be required to conduct assessments and case management, including follow-up to ensure clients and children are receiving appropriate services. The associate will be expected to track the impact of the assistance provided to clients and children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify refugee children who are unaccompanied and separated children, survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, or any other form of trauma.
- Identify refugee children in need of social support, such as financial assistance, medical assistance, birth registration, legal protection, and family tracing.
- Carry out social assessments and monitor socio-environmental risks faced by refugee children to ensure risk mitigation.
- Prepare Best Interest Determination and Best Interest Assessment reports for refugee children.
- Identify children who require psychosocial support and link them with counselors for timely support.
- Make regular home visits to assess children’s needs and progress under the UNHCR Child Protection Project within Nairobi.
- Assist in outreach and community dialogue activities on issues related to child abuse and children with special needs.
- Make referrals to partner agencies for vulnerable refugee children and follow up with clients to facilitate access to external services.
- Prepare summaries for presentations in the internal HIAS Psychosocial Panel, enter data into the case management database, and give feedback to refugees.
- Monitor impacts of social assistance for vulnerable refugees and children.
- Open files for all clients (soft and hard) and ensure that case management complies with HIAS SOPs and other sector standards.
- Mobilize and organize target communities in the respective site office coverage area to form community structures responsible for spearheading child protection activities in accordance with the approved project description and work plan.
- Organize and train established community structures on all child protection acts, covenants and charters/agreements, local, national and international.
- Carry out weekly and monthly identification of potential foster parents, assess and train those who meet the criteria in readiness for assigning of foster children.
- In liaison with Child Protection Monitors and Community Outreach workers; conduct awareness and sensitization campaigns in the communities.
- Conduct support groups, committee meetings and participate in community forums/trainings.
- Establish and maintain networks with existing community structures and other partners for referral and networking purposes.
- Conduct a mapping exercise for all sector agencies and link with them for collaboration and support in provision of child protection services – these will include Area Advisory Councils.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports to the Child Protection Officer and other technical officers highlighting individual performance, progress against targets and client needs as instructed by the Child Protection Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- A University Degree in Social Work, Community Development, Gender and Development Studies or another related area of study.
- At least 1-2 years of working experience in the field of Social Work. Experience working with an NGO that deals with refugees is an added advantage.
- Experience in providing children’s activities and supervising a Child-Friendly Space (CFS) will be an added advantage.
- Excellent writing skills
- Fluency in English is Mandatory

GBV Associate
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Gender and GBV Associate will focus on the provision of comprehensive frontline gender-based violence (GBV) interventions as well as strengthening protection mainstreaming and promoting protection through advocacy with stakeholders. The position holder will make efforts to identify and reach the most at-risk groups often excluded or under-represented in mainstream service provision, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Of these groups, profiles with multiple vulnerabilities will be targeted, as well as those experiencing systemic barriers, such as undocumented refugees & LGBTIQ+ persons, to strengthen the protection of at-risk refugees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify and provide post-GBV services to women and girls who are survivors of sexual and gender-based violence or any other form of trauma.
- Identify refugee women and girls needing social support such as financial assistance, medical assistance, and legal protection. Carry out social assessments and keep track of socio-environmental risks faced by refugee women and girls to ensure timely mitigation of risks.
- Identify refugee women and girls who require psychosocial referrals from the hotline and community and any other support and link them with the counselors for timely support.
- Review all social and psychological assessment reports generated and link to the MHPSS department for further support
- In collaboration with community outreach workers conduct regular assessments of the needs and progress of the refugee women and girls.
- In collaboration with the GBV team, conduct training to HIAS staff on safety and capacity to respond to GBV incidences.
- Participate in GBV response, outreach and community dialogue activities to enhance community response and prevention of violence against women and girls.
- Conduct referrals of vulnerable refugee women and girls to partner agencies and follow up with clients to facilitate access to external services.
- Monitor GBV trends through GBVIMs data collection and prepare summaries for presentation in psychosocial panel, effect subsequent panel decisions.
- Prepare a monthly analysis on GBV key issues based on case trends to disseminate information on available services and referral pathways.
- Open files for clients and ensure that case management is in line with HIAS SOPs and other sector standards.
- Assess, identify, and analyze community-sensitive interventions geared toward building resilience and self-reliance among Refugee women and girls.
- Strengthen community participation and accountability by engaging community outreach workers and community leaders to assist in identifying and selecting beneficiaries most in need within the community.

- Support in conducting linking and learning forums targeting the project’s beneficiaries, refugee-led CBOs, and other stakeholders.

MHPSS Associate
POSITION SUMMARY:
The MHPSS Associate will be responsible for directly providing MHPSS services to refugees and asylum seekers in a timely and efficient manner. This position will also facilitate MHPSS capacity-building activities for HIAS staff and key stakeholders. The MHPSS associate’s key responsibilities will include conducting individual assessments, engaging in case management, and ensuring that individuals receive the proper level of care. The MHPSS associate will be expected to track the impact of the assistance provided to all clients and will work under the supervision of a Field Office Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- In close coordination with the MHPSS Program Manager, establish standard operating procedures for the provision of MHPSS support to refugees and asylum seekers.
- In close coordination with the MHPSS Program Manager, develop a brief assessment to identify emergency and vulnerable psychosocial needs.
- Provide culturally sensitive MHPSS support (both individual and group) to refugees and IDPs experiencing elevated distress, including children and youth, caregivers, and other vulnerable individuals,

POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS is looking to recruit a part-time counseling psychologist who will assist in the provision of counseling and other psychotherapeutic interventions to vulnerable and at-risk refugee clients, including those who have undergone emotional and psychological distress as well as those with mental health challenges impairing their normal functioning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide individual and group counseling services and other short term therapeutic services to refugees referred to the field office and keep continuous counseling notes
- Conduct psychological assessments and Mental Status Examinations, preparing and submitting the reports to the Center Coordinator.
