Alumni Officer
Basic job summary:
- To be responsible for promoting open lines of communication between alumni and Strathmore University through planning and execution of programs that foster goodwill and positive relations between the University and its Alumni.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure the existence a comprehensive and up-to-date Alumni database capturing contact, biographical and career information of Alumni via surveys Alumni directory, correspondence, website as well as social media;
- Support the Alumni Manager to establish and build relationships with a wide range of Alumni, locally, regionally and internationally through regular communication with Alumni via direct contact, email blasts, Alumni web pages, and print publications.
- Provide support to the school in undertaking events and communications which will promote good Alumni relations
- Plan and implement multi-faceted programs for alumni, students, and friends that increase good will and positive relationships with the University;
- Respond to Alumni enquiries in a welcoming, timely and effective manner, either personally or by directing the matter to the appropriate individual
- Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time as long as it is within the scope of the job and is aligned to the mission and vision of the University.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in any related field from a recognized institution
Experience:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience in an alumni relations, fundraising, public relations or a similar role
- Working in design, as a creative and knowledge and experience of digital media management

Associate Employment and Compliance
Basic job summary:
- The job holder will play a crucial role in ensuring legal compliance and providing legal support within the People and Culture function of the University.
- The job holder will collaborate closely with the People and Culture Compliance Manager in providing legal expertise and guidance on employment law, labour relations, and regulatory compliance matters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Legal Compliance
- Advise the People and Culture Compliance Manager on all emerging employment-related laws, Universities Act legislation and standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Review and revise the People and Culture policies, procedures, protocols and employee handbooks to ensure legal and internal policy compliance.
- Advise the People and Culture Compliance Manager on the legal implications of policies and practices to mitigate potential risks.
- Monitor changes in employment laws and regulations and provide recommendations for updates or modifications as necessary.

Employment and Labour Relations
- Provide legal guidance and support to the People and Culture Compliance Manager on employment-related matters including but not limited to recruitment, terminations and disciplinary.
- Conduct legal research on employment law issues and prepare legal opinions and memoranda.
- Review, draft, maintain and regularly update all types of templates related to employment contracts and related documentation including but not limited to draft employment contracts, offer letters, confidentiality agreements, mutual separation agreements, discharge vouchers and other People and Culture-related legal documents.
- Guide the People and Culture Compliance Manager on the legal aspects related to employee complaints, grievances other employment-related issues.
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive relationships with labour unions, if applicable.
- Collaborate with People and Culture Compliance Manager to handle labour disputes, negotiations, and collective bargaining agreements.
Training and Education
- In consultation with the People and Culture Compliance Manager develop and deliver training programs to educate the People and Culture team and the relevant internal stakeholders on legal compliance, employment law, and best practices.
- In consultation with the People and Culture Compliance Manager prepare and update training materials, presentations, and resources related to employment law.
Legal Documentation and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and organized legal records and documentation related to People and Culture matters.
- Prepare and review legal documents, including employment contracts, settlement agreements, and severance agreements.
- Collaborate with the People and Culture Compliance Manager to ensure proper handling and storage of sensitive employee information.
- Any other duty may be assigned from time to time by the University.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law.
- Admission to the Bar with a valid practicing license
- Any certification in a Human Resource certification will be an added advantage
Experience:
- At least 3 years’ post-admission experience
- Experience in higher education is preferred.

- Sound knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the capability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals.
- Proficiency in using legal research tools and software.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and also independently with minimal supervision.
