Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Security Specialist (Strategic Training and Preparedness) based in Washington, D.C., the Security Specialist (Training Team) will conduct training and exercise programs for staff from various units on a broad range of security topics. The Security Specialist (Training Team) will play a critical role driving the implementation of Corporate Security’s learning strategy, including the development of Unit staff and the delivery of core curriculum for all WBG staff, improving the quality and relevance of technical and professional learning with a linkage to individual career paths, ensuring that learning is accessible regardless of their geographic location.
The Security Specialist (Training Team) will remain informed of various knowledge management practices through the WBG to inform Unit staff and external clients of the resources and systems available and support a variety of deliveries. Located in Washington, DC, United States (1) and Nairobi, Kenya (1), this position will lead and support deliveries around the globe and other key training initiatives as required.

Strategic Training and Awareness

Would you like to prepare individual World Bank Group staff for travel around the globe and provide them with the critical tools to stay safe regardless of where they are? We are looking for someone to ensure the readiness of World Bank Group staff to handle different incidents by providing such staff with the tools necessary to prepare for any number of events; respond to various events and recover from them. Specific results include:

  • Coordinate, research and employ appropriate methodologies in training and communications to execute training programs that contribute to GCSSC Training Team’s overall security awareness outreach to staff and management.
  • Support in the development of new products and deliver both routine and complex training products, and address needs identified by partners, alongside other Training Team members.
  • Work alongside the other trainers to support the delivery of multiple programs and the scheduling thereof.
  • Lead the organization and delivery of training modules as and when required.
  • Collaborate with Training Team members to identify areas for improvement and expansion of all GCSSC learning and training programs; coordinate events related to GCSSC for internal and external audiences (courses, workshops, safety awareness BBL, conferences, and specialized events).
  • Update and maintain Corporate Security Learning Resources.•Ensure the efficiency, quality and responsiveness of learning programs and activities by analyzing current activities, monitoring their use, and measuring their impact. Incorporate evaluation results from surveys to improve learning activities.
  • Collaborate with GCSSC and other WBG internal and external partners, and sponsors to deliver learning activities.
  • Support logistics related to GCSSC Staff Development and Training Team activities, including events, trainings, and publication.
  • •Advise on learning development, design, marketing, implementation, and evaluation including the use of technology.•Support the development of marketing and promotion training materials (videos, posters, internal social media updates; etc.).
  • Provide regular update to the unit on the status and capability of the program, highlighting issues and achievements.
  • Report directly to the Senior Security Specialist (Strategic Training and Preparedness).

Selection Criteria

  • Master’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience in Knowledge Management Development, Learning Development, Instructional Design, International Relations, Political Science, National Security Studies or related field. A bachelor’s degree in combination with 7 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with training portfolio through effective planning, directing, organizing and coordination. Experience with design, organization, and implementation of knowledge sharing, learning activities and learning plans.•Proficiency with common office computer programs.
  • Oral and written fluency in English is required.•Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is strongly preferred.  

Specialized Skills

  • Experience in WBG, UN and/or diplomatic security operations are highly desirable.•Ability to capture and organize information and synthesize knowledge from diverse sources of information.

Duties and Accountabilities:   

This is an opportunity to work within the infrastructure Africa team, and support the supervision and management of a $5bn portfolio. The Intern will principally assist in delivering (i) essential credit/structuring benchmarks needed for our new transactions, (ii) enhanced operational process to support credit review of the portfolio, and (iii) fund management specific tasks. More specifically, the work will include: 
 
Projects related: 

• Define (in discussion with the Portfolio Leads) a number of key commercial/credit/operational criteria to be tracked across our portfolio projects, that will inform structuring of new projects. Develop a database for these by working with the relevant projects IOs. 
• Improve the process of documenting key executed legal information by Projects (project “bible”, relevant amendments and waivers as processed through the PDS changes). 
 
Portfolio operational: 

• Work with Portfolio Leads (and credit if needed) to design a template for PD and LGD on Word, that’ll be used to track changes between quarterly credit review. 
• Create a repository for portfolio knowledge management: lessons learned papers, XPSRs, key guidance notes. 
• Support training efforts in relation to specific topics (for example fund valuation/supervision, Equity valuation etc.). 

Fund management specific: 

• Develop a format and produce IFC Africa Infrastructure Team Fund Investment 2-pagers for all fund projects (currently 10 projects in our portfolio). 
• Support generating a CRR in accordance with our investment procedures and requirements.
