Lecturer – Department of Technology Education – Scale 12 (XII)

Duties and Responsibilities

An individual appointed as a Lecturer shall;

  • Teach and assess courses in one’s discipline at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Supervise undetgraduate students’ projects and other experiential learning programmes;
  • Supervise dissertations/theses at postgraduate level;
  • Participate in the development! review of undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
  • Initiate, promote and participate in research projects;
  • Provide professional and community services, and initiate strategic training and research
  • Partnerships and linkages, and undertake fundraising for the University; and
  • Carry out administrative and such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

For appointment to this position, a candidate must:-

  • Have a relevant Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) from an accredited/ recognized academic institution;
  • Have a minimum of twelve (12) research publication output points from refereed scholarly journals and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings,

OR

  • Have a minimum of thirty two (32) publication points if the applicant is from a research institution, or have a minimum of six (6) publication points if the applicant is from practice/industry,
  • Show evidence of evaluated effective teaching and / or research;
  • Show evidence of recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory body where applicable; and,
  • Show evidence of membership or affiliation of the relevant professional body where applicable.

Tutorial Fellow – Department of Chemical & Process Engineering – Scale 11 (XI)

Duties and Responsibilities

An individual appointed as a Tutorial Fellow shall:

  • Assist senior academic members of staff in assignments allocated by the Chair of Department;
  • Undertake a relevant Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) programme;
  • Provide professional and community service, and participate in initiating strategic training and research partnerships and linkages; and
  • Carry out such dther duties & responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must;

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from an accredited/recognized University;
  • Demonstrate pqtential for university teaching and/ or research during the appointment interview and also during the Contract period;
  • Be registered for a relevant Doctorate (Ph. D.) degree;
  • Show evidence of membership or affiliation of the relevant professional body where applicable;
  • Recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory body where the candidate must be registered at least as a Graduate Engineer by the EBK; and
  • Show evidence of recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory body where applicable

Braille Transcriber Officer

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Running the Unit for the Handicapped;
  • Formatting any document before it is transcribed into Braille;
  • Liaising with the Kenya Society for the Blind and any other organization in acquiring equipment for use by the blind students;
  • Coordinating with the School of Education on curriculum and desi gn adaptations necessary to meet the needs of the blind students;
  • Coordinating with the Dean of Students in identifying volunteer readers for the blind students;
  • Attending seminars and meetings for the welfare of the blind students;
  • Preparing models for use by the blind students; and
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of Students from time to time.

Requirements for Direct Appointment

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:-

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in Braille Proficiency;
  • Certificate in Mobility; and at least eight (8) years working experience in a well-established institution.

Requirements for Serving Officers

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
  • Worked for at least three (3) years as Senior Braille Transcriber Technician;
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance.
