Theatre Nurse
Job Objective/Purpose
To assist the Surgeon and Anaesthetist in the Operating Room (OR), supervising the theatre technicians and managing the PostAnaesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining Theatre list
- Correctly book patients for surgical procedures
- Ensure surgeon / anaesthetist are informed of bookings or changes intime
- Receiving Patients
- Checks completeness of theatre checklist and act appropriately
- Carry out a Pre-Operative Assessment
- Appropriately explain the nature of the procedure / operation to thepatient
- Ensure all X-rays, Scans, Investigations and Bloods are available
- Obtains correct consent for operations and general anaesthesia for daycases
- Prepares and avails patient in time for operation with all reports forday cases
- Operating Room Management
- Accounting for all the pieces of equipment, especially after theoperation.
- Getting and opening packs required
- Ensures that the packs remain sterile and that the operating roomenvironment is contamination free
- Post-Operation
- Accurately assesses patient after operation, documents clinicalobservations & findings
- Consults and advises surgeon / anaesthetist immediately ifabnormalities are noted
- Effectively hands over the patient to recovery / ward nurse
- Drug Administration
- Ensure all required drugs/supplies are available
- Adhere to the 10 rights of drug administration (right patient,medication, dosage, route, time, documentation, client education,assessment, evaluation and client refusal of treatment)
- Ensure all treatment sheets have patients biodata including informationon drug allergies.
- Submit all new drug orders to pharmacy promptly and STAT dosesgiven within 30 minutes
- Ensures all the items used by patients are billed accurately
- Ensures crash cart and emergency equipment are checkedas required by the hospital standards
- Equipment
- Ensures that the Operating Room is well stocked with therequired surgical instruments
- Keep regular inventory of equipment
- Keep all necessary packs and instruments organized foreasy use during each procedure
- Infection – Control
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste
- Ensure medical equipment are disinfected before next use
- Ensure proper disinfectants are used
- Maintain and enforce infection control standards per thehospital manual and observe the infection control bundles(SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.
- Record all sentinel incidents/events and report within24 hours using the provided tools
- Ensure patients safety following the 6 InternationalPatient Safety Goals (IPSGs)
- Ensure all the relevant consultants have explainedprocedures and have obtained consent
- Complete official checklists for all patients prior toprocedures (theatre, radiology, renal)
- Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality ismaintained at all times, as per policy.
- Participate in emergency response
- Ensure client satisfaction through optimal quality ofcare, effective communication, timely feedback andescalation of unresolved issues to the incharge anddemonstrate follow-up and improvement.15.Any other duty as assigned by your immediatesupervisor in line with the job description
Personal Specifications
- A higher diploma in Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is desirable and added advantage
- Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing
- A valid nursing council of Kenya license
- Up to date BLS, ACLS/ATLS certificate
- 2 years’ experience in nursing
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with attention to detail and results oriented
Inpatient Billing Nurse
Job Objective/Purpose
To ensure accurate and complete billing of inpatient services in accordance with Avenue Healthcare’s defined policies, procedures,standards and strategies
Key Responsibilities
- Daily review of patients’ billing statements, including alldischarged patients, for accuracy and completion prior tofinalization of the invoices.
- Ensure services noted in the patient’s chart are billed andclarify any other services rendered with attendingclinicians.
- Resolve incoming queries on billing from patients,insurance companies, consultants or colleagues in aprofessional and efficient manner.
- Provide billing information by collecting, analyzing, andsummarizing third-party billings, accounts pending, andlate charges data and trends.
- Prepare billing statements for insurance companies,patients and other third parties.
- Prepare reports and respond to inquiries concerningbilling activities.
- Participate in audits, service evaluations and processreviews to enhance the delivery of billing service tocustomers/stakeholders.
- Ensure all patient encounters and procedures are postedcorrectly with the current ICD and CPT codes.
- Client satisfaction (patient, consultants andothers)-
- Ensure client satisfaction through optimal qualityof care, effective communication, timelyfeedback and escalation of unresolved issues.
- Oversee the Education of staff, includingorientation and Training to ensure performanceimprovement on patient billing.
- Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporategovernance policies are adhered to, includingpreventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud orcriminal activities, and Implementing auditrecommendations.
- Ensure adequate knowledge of, and complianceto all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures,and systems, especially policies pertaining to theprovision of medical services.
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor inline with the job description.
Personal Specifications
- Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) or BsN
- A valid Nursing License from NCK
- Finance Training (CPA III) highly desirable
- 1+ years nursing experience and 2+ years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a Hospital set-up
