Lead, Forest Allies
Position summary:
The Forest Allies program protects, conserves and restores the world’s most important forests by partnering with forest communities. Forest Allies brings together companies, regional civil society organizations, and forest communities through collective investment in a portfolio of projects with the shared objective of partnering with forest communities to become effective stewards and forest guardian. Claims are a key component of the initiative enabling the ability to elevate the visibility of forest communities through rich, data driven claims and storytelling.
As such, Forest Allies is a key global program within the context of the Rainforest Alliance 2030 Strategy, as it directly supports our impact area of conserving forests and their biodiversity; which puts producers first and seeks to create a continuous improvement journey.
The Lead, Forest Allies, will work to ensure a cohesive, simple, effective and viable Forest Allies program by connecting, providing feedback, and clarifying roles and responsibilities across Rainforest Alliance departments involved in Forest Allies. The Lead, Forest Allies, leads on driving producer centricity for the program. They also ensure there is maximized synergy creation, coordination, and continuous communication between Rainforest Alliance’s global programs. The lead will also be a key spokesperson for the Forest Allies program, both internally and externally.
The Lead will coordinate closely with a multi-disciplinary, international group of specialists and teams across the organization.
Identifying critical cross-departmental and external alliance growth opportunities as well as having the expertise and communication style to positively influence these successful collaborations is key to the success of this role.
Responsibilities:
- The Rainforest Alliance’s Core Values are Impact, Change, Collaboration, Openness and Trust and as such they form the basis of the behaviours we demonstrate;
- Lead the strategy to ensure that the Forest Allies program supports the organization in achieving its 2030 Strategy, promoting speed, scale and simplification in design, implementation, and impact creation;
- Ensure that Forest Allies has the necessary core elements and is producer centric, which include a clear value proposition, operating model, systems and tools, decision-making procedures, revenue and fundraising model, assurance mechanism, KPIs and reporting processes, claims framework;
- Ensure Forest Allies works in close collaboration with Rainforest Alliance’s other Standards and Frameworks and global programs, so that their contribution to the 2030 strategy is integrated;
- Work closely with departments across the Rainforest Alliance to align and coordinate on Forest Allies’ implementation, e.g., on regional design and implementation, corporate engagement and partnerships; with programmatic specialists, marketing and communication, etc;
- Apply the Portfolio Management Process to analyse and make decisions on specific elements of Forest Allies that will go through a major overhaul as; ensuring due governance of each stage in the process with proper gates so that we are driving our program development through the operating model;
- Represent Rainforest Alliance at key events and in key meetings, presentations, policy forums and roundtables to promote the impact created through Forest Allies;
- Cultivate a culture of positive and proactive collaboration, consult widely and inclusively across the organization, clearly demonstrating taking broad perspectives into consideration, and embed continuous learning and simplification into all aspects of programmatic work; and;
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Forestry, Biology, Social Sciences, or related field; master’s degree preferred;
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in the tropical community forestry sector;
- At least 5 years of demonstrable experience working with community forest enterprises programs and forestry certification systems;
- Extraordinary commitment, energy, and a positive mindset;
- Knowledge of sustainable development issues and commitment to Rainforest Alliance’s goals of strengthening livelihoods and securing human rights; conserving forests and other high-value ecosystems; restoring production systems and rural landscapes; and mitigating climate change and building climate resilience;
- Sound project management experience;
- Key competencies: Transformational leadership, innovation, adaptability, persuasion, critical and reflective thinking, public speaking, resourcefulness, relationship builder based on trust, empathy and openness, and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner;
- Fluency in the language of the country where the position is based, and high quality spoken and written English;
- Ability to travel a minimum of 20% per year, nationally and internationally.
Communications Manager, LandScale
Position summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Communications Manager to lead the development and implementation of LandScale’s communications strategy. You will manage LandScale’s communications (internal and external), ranging from media relations and stakeholder engagement to messaging, editorial planning, and content development. You are a determined and well-organized self-starter with a “can do” attitude and are comfortable taking on diverse responsibilities.
The Communications Manager will be responsible for the following duties.
- Refine and implement a communications strategy to support LandScale’s strategic priorities and mission
- Ensure the LandScale brand is applied correctly and consistently by the team, partners, customers, and advocates
- Lead the development of LandScale’s communications materials in all relevant forms, including print and online, e.g., website content, social media, newsletters, case studies, press releases, white papers, videos, infographics, and any other necessary materials
- Plan and coordinate LandScale’s presence at key events and assist in preparing team members to participate in these events, including preparing presentations, and attending meetings, as needed
- Oversee website development and curation
- Manage and enhance engagement of LandScale’s subscribers/followers via social media channels and mailing lists
- Support LandScale’s Steering Group members (Rainforest Alliance and Conservation International) and partners to be effective in conveying and amplifying key messages related to LandScale
- Build and manage a network of engaged advocates to promote LandScale through word-of-mouth and other communications
- Work with colleagues, LandScale users, and partners to develop stories and thought-leadership pieces to raise awareness of LandScale
- Manage and elevate LandScale’s media presence, for instance by producing press releases, cultivating and maintaining key media contacts, and securing earned media placements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, international development, environmental or social sciences, or a related field
- At least 7 years of relevant work experience
- The ability to present complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner to a wide variety of audiences, including governments, businesses, investors, and project developers
- Excellent English writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with a diversity of stakeholders from different sectors and cultural backgrounds
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current sustainability trends and practices as well as environmental and social issues
- Experience conducting or overseeing visual and graphic design activities in support of brand identity, marketing, and communications
- Experience with media relations
- Proficiency working with key communications platforms and tools, including but not limited to WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe Creative, LinkedIn, and Twitter
- Experience working in a start-up environment is a plus
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time nationally and internationally
Senior Manager, Frameworks
Position summary:
At the Rainforest Alliance we are looking for a motivated, collaborative and results-oriented Senior Manager Frameworks to position the Rainforest Alliance as a sustainability partner of choice and thought leader in the landscape of sustainability standards and frameworks and support the Rainforest Alliance to scale up its standards and other frameworks to achieve its mission.
The Senior Manager Frameworks leads the development, maintenance and alignment of the content of the global certification standard for farms and supply chain actors. It is also her/his responsibility to standardized, communicate and lead the process for developing the content of other Rainforest Alliance’s assurance-based offerings through collaborative work with a network of internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- The Rainforest Alliance’s Core Values are Impact, Change, Collaboration, Openness and Trust and as such they form the basis of the behaviours we demonstrate;
- Lead the development and periodical reviews of the content of the Sustainable Agriculture Standard and other frameworks that are part of the Rainforest Alliance’s offerings, ensuring their quality, feasibility, credibility and scalability.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders to ensure their needs and feedback, as well as the developments in sustainable agriculture, voluntary standards and legislation are considered to develop the frameworks.
- Ensure our frameworks comply with the applicable legislation, external codes (e.g. ISEAL Alliance), and are adequately positioned and ranked against relevant benchmarking initiatives;
- Create, modify and enforce solid, transparent and efficient governance systems for the development and maintenance of the Rainforest Alliance’s frameworks.
- Coordinate with other schemes to optimize the user experience by creating efficiencies that benefit users.
- Represent the Rainforest Alliance in relevant external discussions about our frameworks with other schemes and with stakeholders such as market partners, civil society groups, producers, workers, and scientists.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring; mentoring and evaluating; guiding professional development opportunities; and addressing employee relations issues; and
- Inspire, lead and motivate the team, championing a culture of collaboration, learning and accountability.
Qualifications:
- Education: BA or BS Degree in Natural Resource or Social Sciences-related field (i.e. Forestry, Wildlife, Biology, Anthropology, Sociology).
- Work Experience: Demonstrated ability (10 years’) experience in sustainable agriculture and third-party compliance schemes. Worldwide or regional experience is desirable.
- At least 7 years proven experience in the development or execution of sustainability programs in agriculture, forestry or landscape management.
- Communication Skills: Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. Content development Skills are highly appreciated.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Foreign Language Skills: Written and verbal proficiency in English, a must.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals.
- Enterprise and servant leadership with consistent track record of collaboration and teamwork, preferable in a global environment.
