Community Development Manager
Roles & Responsibilities:
Community Development and Relationship Building:
- Lead the development and execution of community engagement plans to build strong, trust-based relationships with community leaders, residents, and key stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain regular communication channels with communities to understand their needs, priorities, and perspectives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for community-related matters and represent the company in community forums and meetings.
Partnership Development and Management:
- Identify, cultivate, and manage strategic partnerships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and other relevant stakeholders.
- Negotiate and formalize partnership agreements to maximize the impact and reach of community development initiatives.
- Ensure effective collaboration and communication with partners throughout the project lifecycle.

Strategy Development and Implementation:
- Develop a comprehensive community development strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives and sustainability commitments.
- Translate the strategy into actionable plans, programs, and initiatives with clear objectives, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Oversee the implementation of community development programs, ensuring effective execution, monitoring, and evaluation.
Needs Assessment and Project Development:
- Lead comprehensive community needs assessments using participatory methodologies to identify key social and economic challenges and opportunities.
- Based on assessments, develop innovative and impactful community development project proposals that address identified needs and align with the company’s capabilities and resources.
- Secure internal approvals and resources for community development projects.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Impact Measurement:
- Develop and implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the progress and measure the social and economic impact of community development programs.
- Collect and analyze data, prepare regular reports, and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Utilize data and feedback to continuously improve community development strategies and program effectiveness.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building (if applicable):
- Recruit, train, and manage community development staff and volunteers (if applicable).
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members to ensure effective program delivery.
- Foster a culture of community engagement and social responsibility within the company.
Budget Management and Resource Allocation:
- Develop and manage the budget for community development activities, ensuring responsible and efficient use of resources.
Skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Public Relations, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in community in community development, with demonstrated leadership and management responsibilities.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing successful community development strategies and programs.
- Strong understanding of community engagement principles, participatory methodologies, and social impact assessment.
- Excellent stakeholder management, partnership development, and negotiation skills.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct needs assessments, develop project proposals, and manage budgets.
Resource Mobilization and Grants Manager
Roles & Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy Development and Implementation:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and diversified fundraising strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, strategic goals, and financial needs.
- Identify and analyze potential funding sources, including grants, corporate partnerships, individual giving, and other innovative financing mechanisms.
- Establish clear fundraising targets, timelines, and performance metrics.
Donor Identification and Cultivation:
- Conduct thorough research to identify prospective donors whose funding priorities align with the organization’s work.
- Develop and implement cultivation strategies to build strong relationships with potential donors, understanding their interests and motivations.
- Maintain a robust donor database and track all interactions and engagement activities.
Grant Proposal Development and Submission:
- Lead the full grant proposal development process, including conceptualization, writing, budgeting, and internal review.
- Ensure the development of high-quality, compelling, and evidence-based proposals that effectively articulate the organization’s impact and needs.
- Manage the timely submission of grant applications, ensuring adherence to donor guidelines and deadlines.
Grant Management and Compliance:
- Manage a portfolio of grants, ensuring compliance with all donor requirements, including financial reporting, programmatic reporting, and other contractual obligations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with grant officers and program staff at funding organizations.
- Track grant performance against agreed-upon indicators and proactively address any challenges or deviations.
- Ensure all fundraising activities are conducted ethically and in compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Donor Relationship Management:
- Develop and implement strategies for effective donor communication, stewardship, and recognition.
- Prepare regular updates, impact reports, and acknowledgments for donors to foster long-term engagement and loyalty.
- Organize donor visits and events to showcase the organization’s work and impact.
Partnership Development and Collaboration:
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with other organizations, including NGOs, research institutions, and private sector entities, to leverage resources and enhance fundraising efforts.
- Develop collaborative funding proposals and joint initiatives.
Fundraising Performance Tracking and Analysis:
- Track and analyze fundraising performance against targets, providing regular reports and insights to senior management and the board of directors.
- Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities in the funding landscape to inform strategic decision-making.
Capacity Building and Team Support:
- Provide training and support to relevant staff on fundraising best practices and donor engagement.
- Foster a culture of resource mobilization across the organization.
Skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, Community Development, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in fundraising and grant management within the development sector.
- Proven track record of successful grant acquisition from various funding sources (foundations, corporations, government agencies, etc.).
- Strong understanding of the Kenyan donor landscape and funding cycles.
- Excellent proposal writing, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Experience managing grant portfolios and ensuring compliance with donor regulations.
- Strong analytical skills to track fundraising performance and identify trends.
- Proficiency in grant writing software, financial management tools (for budget development), and presentation software.
- Passion for community development and social impact.
