Legal Officer
Job Overview:
The legal officer will be responsiblefor provision of sound Legal Management, Industrial Relations and shall contribute to the accomplishment of human resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, and standards in the Company.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Compliance Management: Oversee adherence to various laws, internal policies, and contractual obligations. Advise on legal matters, ensuring continual compliance. Collaborate with stakeholders, interpreting legal implications for business activities.
- Governance: Draft and analyze legal agreements, negotiate favourable terms, and maintain a central contract database. Monitor contract risks and facilitate corrective action.
- Contract Management: Guide the business in negotiating contracts, maintain a contract database, and oversee institutional knowledge for risk management.
- Policy and Advocacy: Analyze emerging laws, advise on their impact, and strategically advocate for the company’s interests.
- Legal Research and Advice: Conduct comprehensive research, offering timely and effective advice on potential business impacts. Research regulations and laws in diverse environments relevant to the business
- Litigation Management: Draft pleadings, manage external counsel, and potentially represent the company in legal matters.
- Business Process Development: Provide strategic advice on policy formulation, ensuring legal compliance and sustainability.
- Risk and Crisis Management: Identify areas of legal concern, mitigate risks, and manage disputes or claims. Ensure compliance during crisis situations.
- Legal Document Processing: Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, claims, and court filings.
- People Management: Lead and motivate internal and external legal teams to deliver prompt legal services.
- Administrative Work: Manage legal office responsibilities, including documentation, filing, and information sharing.
Other Duties: As assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Graduate degree in law (minimum second class).
- Member of the Law Society of Kenya.
- Minimum of 4 years post-admission experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of corporate law and commitment to organizational objectives.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
- Expertise in litigation, company, and commercial law.
- Strong teamwork and research skills.
