Interventional Cardiologist
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
- Reporting to the Medical Director and the Head of Internal Medicine, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the Hospital’s cardiology program. The position holder will be entrusted with delivering high-quality patient care in alignment with rigorous clinical governance frameworks and quality standards. In this dynamic role, the position holder will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex cardiology cases and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide high-quality and patient-centered care by performing advanced interventional cardiology procedures in line with current clinical governance frameworks, ensuring timely and effective management of complex cardiology cases.
- Conduct thorough pre-procedural evaluations and diagnostic assessments to determine the most appropriate case intervention strategy, including risk stratification, review of diagnostic imaging, and consultation with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient selection and procedural planning.
- Oversee comprehensive post-procedural management by monitoring recovery, managing complications, and providing detailed follow-up care along with patient education on secondary prevention strategies to promote long-term cardiovascular health.
- Take part in departmental initiatives to develop and enhance clinical protocols and services within the cardiology section, actively participating in clinical audits, patient safety programs as well as risk management initiatives to meet and exceed institutional quality guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Mentor and train interns, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals by sharing knowledge, participating in departmental meetings, participating in the Hospital’s Continuous Medical Education (CMEs) and initiatives/forums that support professional development.
- Support and contribute to the institution’s research agenda, staying abreast of the latest advancements in cardiology interventions and integrating evidence-based practices into clinical care.

The requirements
- Postgraduate Certification/Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology
- Fellowship in Cardiology.
- Master’s qualification in Internal Medicine
- At least five years of post-graduate experience of Cardiology.
- A minimum of three (3) years of practice in Interventional Cardiology.
- Be registered and licenced with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.

Cath Lab Nurse Specialist
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to the Head of Nursing, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring and maintaining quality, safe clinical nursing practices, participating in quality improvement activities, and managing both operational and human resource issues within the unit.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mentor staff to assist with diagnostic and interventional procedures being carried out in the Cath Lab as a scrub nurse, circulating nurse hemodynamic monitoring nurse (Recorder).
- Regularly review and ensure that patient documentation is complete and meets the required standards (e.g., initial assessments, reassessments, nursing notes, intake & output).
- Plan and prioritize nursing care based on identified patient needs and evaluate clinical outcomes.
- Deliver safe, evidence-based care to patients in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to nursing staff on performance issues and assist with remedial activities as necessary.
- Monitor inventory management of equipment, drugs, forms, and supplies, and ensure follow-up on any related requests or complaints.
- Foster collaborative relationships with clinicians and support services to ensure the timely delivery of patient care.
- Monitor clinical indicators and take corrective action as required to improve patient outcomes.
- Actively participate in Mortality and Morbidity meetings and follow up on recommendations for patient care improvement.
- Ensure proper charging of services with the unit clerk, where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with institutional mandates related to quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical audits.
The requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Specialized training or certification in Cardiac Care will be an added advantage.
- Registered Nurse with current nursing licensure.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Critical Care Unit, with at least 2 years of experience in a Cath Lab setting or similar unit.

Cath Lab Nurses
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Cath Lab Nurse will operate and monitor sophisticated life support equipment in the Cath Lab, while demonstrating leadership, management skills, and a high level of expertise in current Cath Lab practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with diagnostic and interventional procedures being carried out in the Cath Lab as a scrub nurse, circulating nurse hemodynamic monitoring nurse (Recorder).
- Recognize and implement nursing intervention for managing contrast/anaphylactic reaction
- Performs assessment and planning of care needs, the implementation and evaluation of a program of care that is evidence based and ensures involvement with the patient, family and carer
- Actively participate in the multi-disciplinary on-call team working in the Cath Lab or across hospital site, responding to out of hours cardiac emergencies including Primary PCI procedures for the treatment of Myocardial Infarction.
- Assess patients for early signs of post procedural complications and act upon findings.
- Maintain adequate stock levels in the Cath Lab, ensuring proper utilization of medical supplies and readiness for all scheduled procedures.
- Schedule Cath Lab bookings to ensure timely operations, managing the availability of all necessary equipment and coordinating the schedule for efficient patient flow.
- Uphold infection control measures during all phases of patient care, ensuring compliance with aseptic techniques and promoting patient safety at all times.
The requirements
- Higher Diploma qualification in Critical Care, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Specialized training in Cardiac Nursing or related certifications may be an advantage.
- Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- A valid practicing license.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory setting or similar unit.
- Strong commitment to high standards of patient care.

Cath Lab Radiographer
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to Cath Lab Nurse Specialist, the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and positioning patients for invasive heart procedures. Conduct cardiovascular tests to record patients’ cardiac activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices. Monitor gauges, recorder and video screens of computer system during imaging of cardiovascular system. Prepare reports of diagnostic procedures for interpretation by physicians.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide professional support and advice to patients, radiographers, radiologists, medical staff, nurses and other allied health professionals.
- Assists with the preparation of Medrad power injector for cardiac angiography
- Ensure three principles of radiation protection: Justification, optimization and dose constraints/limits are adhered to.
- Prepare exam room and equipment to examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions and confirming anticipated service with patients before examination.
- Monitors the patient’s physical condition and ensure their comfort during the procedure; report patient change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, supervisor and/or cardiologist
- Analyzing technical information and providing a summary of findings for the Cardiologists and other Physicians to make a diagnosis.
- Apply independent, professional, ethical judgment during examinations to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images
- Ensure the safe operation of all equipment, monitor performance, troubleshoot and follow
- Preventative maintenance programs of department equipment, instruments and tools.
- Recognize problems with test results and/or instrumentation and take appropriate action.
- Understand and adhere to quality assurance standards and quality control procedures. Follow up on quality control problems.
The requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography.
- A certificate in Echocardiography is desirable.
- Minimum Six (6) years of relevant work experience with 2 years of experience in Cath Lab Unit.
- Possess a strong knowledge of diagnostic Cardiac procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs.
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Nuclear Radiological Authority.
- Members of professional body preferably SORK.
- Basic Life Support training is mandatory.
Echo Cardiographer (Locum)
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to Cardiologist directly and to Kisii Medical Centre Manager in dotted line, the successful candidate will be responsible to carry out diagnostic echocardiography scans and report clinical echo scans independently. Will also promote a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care within the hospital, ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, Holter monitor, Exercise stress testing and Dobutamine stress testing considering the age-specific physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of the patient. in compliance with departmental and hospital policy and procedure.
- Consistently performs quality Doppler and color Doppler Exams.
- Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.
- Monitors the patient’s physical condition during the procedure, report patient change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, supervisor and/or cardiologist.
- Protects patients by adhering to safety policies and protocols.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation, including computerized documentation.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Troubleshoot equipment and document errors or equipment malfunctions; escalate issues and concerns to engineer, supervisor, and/or cardiologist.
- Participates in the formulation of Cardiac Diagnostic Policies and protocols.
- Ensure the timely production and delivery of patient procedure reports.
- Maintains infection control protocols to protect patients and staff and maintains a safe working environment.
The requirements
- Minimum Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography
- Certificate in Echocardiography
- Up to date BLS, ACLS, ATLS Certificate
- At least 1 years’ experience in Cardiac Echo and other Diagnostics
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Nuclear Radiological Authority.
- Member of professional body preferably SORK.
