Record to Report Analyst (GL,Reporting and Intercompany)

Job Description

Reporting to the Record to Report Team Lead, the Record to Report Analyst is responsible for general accounting and internal control support in line with IFRS  including preparation of journal entries, maintenance of Chart of accounts, completion of the month end closing process and ensuring that the general ledger account balances and trial balances are appropriately reconciled as per the company policy for both Safaricom and its subsidiaries. Additionally they should assure delivery of services as defined in the Service Level Agreement (SLA) /KPI’s applicable for the role.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities and decision ownership: 

  • Accountable for preparation and posting of journal entries for Safaricom and its subsidiaries. 
  • Performing the month end closure activities: finalizing the general ledger, maintaining the close schedule, scheduling of subsystem feeds, giving proposal for materiality decisions on closing entries and communicating to internal customers on formal closure of the month. 
  • In charge of Revenue validation and reporting for Safaricom and its subsidiaries. 
  • Ensuring data quality and integrity in reporting financial information to the stakeholders 
  • Maintaining accountability for the standard chart of accounts and for the account analysis/ reconciliations on a timely basis. 
  • Managing intercompany modules and related entries in these accounts. 
  • Cooperating with other team members to ensure that the Shared Service Center is meeting or exceeding performance levels. 
  • Continuously seeking to improve the R2R processes to increase efficiencies in line with leading practices. 
  • Properly manage accruals and prepayments and keep a proper check control of the schedules. 
  • Responsible for payroll accounting including recording journal entries and reconciling payroll expense for correctness. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that leases are accounted for in accordance with IFRS 16. 
  • Revaluation of foreign currency denominated balances. 
  • Ensure seamless integration of new products through end to end mapping  aimed at ensuring completeness, timeliness and accuracy of transactions into ERP. 

Must have technical / professional qualifications:  

  • A graduate with a degree in a financial field. 
  •  Recognized accounting qualification (CPA (K), ACCA, etc.) and a member of a professional body. 
  • Relevant post-graduate education is an added advantage. 
  • Have at least 4 years’ experience in Finance. 
  • Previous experience working in reporting function necessary. 
  •  In depth knowledge and experience to provide strong financial decision support to the business. 
  • Able to take a holistic view of the business with a financial focus. 
  • Up to date knowledge of best practice in accounting processes and accounting systems. 
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • High level experience and skills working with stakeholders. 
  • Strong, proven accounting acumen. 
  • Experience in financial systems (knowledge of Oracle E Business Suite and Hyperion). 
  • Thorough understanding of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). 
  • Good knowledge in excel and other analytical tools such as Power BI and Qlik Sense 
  • Able to examine and interpret financial data 

Record to Report Analyst (Cash Management)

Job Description

Reporting to the Record to Report Team Lead, the role holder is responsible for ensuring bank reconciliations are completed on time, all banking’s are verified daily and correctly captured in ERP, ensure accuracy and completeness of all Bank & M-PESA transactions in accordance with policies and International Accounting Standards.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership: 

  • Daily bank reconciliation of the bank accounts assigned to them. 
  • Assist in the development of relevant Treasury Operations processes and controls & ensuring their review and subsequent approval. 
  • Assist in closing on internal and external audit requests and follow up implementation of the recommendations. 
  • Ensure timely month end reporting including all P&L schedule Balance Sheet schedules by expected timelines. 
  • Ensure seamless integration of new products into the cashbook through end to end mapping aimed at ensuring completeness, timeliness and accuracy of transactions into ERP. 
  • Liaison amongst relevant departments to ensure projects are successfully launched &Finance is supported in terms report requirements. 
  • Liaison with Technology Enablement support team in case of any system challenges. 
  • Facilitate timely resolution of issues to do with the transmission of data between the bank and download into ERP/Intellimatch. 
  • Ensure all reconciling items appearing on the bank reconciliation are properly supported by a detailed listing and resolved in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure correspondence to the various partners (Banks, retail centres, & Credit Control etc) is actioned within 24 hours.

Order to Cash Analyst

Job Description

Reporting to the Order to Cash Team Lead, the role holder will be responsible for the execution of daily and regular tasks within the order to cash section, participate in risk mitigation through effective application of internal controls, carry out account reconciliations, supporting month end close and mainataining accounting ledgers in accordance with Safaricom poilcies and processes while ensuring compliance with international Financial Reporting standards.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that appropriate controls are implemented and monitored in the order to cash processes. 
  • Risk reduction through daily review of dealer receipt accounts, operational and retail center cash management.  
  • Daily account reconciliation 
  • Support in daily billing processes for corporate, fibre, collocation, sundry and roaming partners. 
  • Monitor the automated billing and receipting processes and make interventions where necessary. 
  • Approve and release retail orders. 
  • Master data management- Assist create and manage customer accounts that fall within the O2C processes. 
  • Assist oversight the finance retail processes and ensure all reconciling matters arising from M-PESA float and ERP POS reconciliation are closed in a timely manner. 
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure all finance processes are well mapped in all our products to ensure real time sales to dealers, retail shops and other customer categories. 
  • Assist in Debt Management, accounting, and collection. 
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with internal and external partners- Dealers, Roaming partners, Retail centers and Credit Control. 
  • Decision Support- Assist review business case documents clearly outlining the finance support for the product. 
  • Regularly update the risk control matrix clearing highlighting the risk, control, and mitigation  
  • Participate in the monthly accounting close ensuring timeliness, accuracy, completeness and compliance with company, group policy and IFRS. 
  • Implement and maintain all financial controls and systems within the section, identifying and recommending potential operational efficiencies and improvements to working practices and procedure 

Must have technical / professional qualifications:  

  • Business related bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. 
  • Qualified Accountant with CPA (K)/ACCA/CIMA/ACA or  
  • 3-5 years Accounting/ finance experience. 
  • Highly computer literate: ability to work without supervision; drive for results 
  • Having good stakeholder management skills is essential 

Techincal competencies 

  • Proficiency in Excel , data analytics and the use of various data analysis tools is a plus  
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and their application within Finance and related systems. 
  • Proven experience as an enabler of digital processes digitization and automation 
  • A strategic thinker; shaping processes, people and systems 
  • Ability to quickly identify risks and capture accounting implications. 
  • Experience working with accounting Systems e.g. Oracle, Hyperion, SAP, etc. 
  • Strong analytical skills and a keen attention to details; 
  • Self-driven, results oriented, proactive and an ability to work without supervision 
  • Customer Service and inter-relation skills
