Field Officers – Nyeri

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the Agricultural Development Assistant to define environmental and geo-pedological characteristics for the development of vegetable oil production initiatives (bio feedstock).
  • Analyzing local agricultural contexts and production systems in the respective County.
  • Building the capacity of local communities to sustainably manage bio feedstock agricultural resources.
  • Developing partnerships and synergy with government departments, NGOs, and other institutions involved in agricultural development.
  • Supporting other company initiatives contributing to agriculture development, such as environmental awareness and communication campaigns.
  • Identifying, profiling, and supporting farmer cooperatives, Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and farmer groups in the county.
  • Provide for weekly, monthly and quarterly reports in the agreed format and according to organizational deadlines.
  • Participate actively in weekly, monthly and quarterly staff meetings.
  • Participate in routine and annual stakeholder consultations and workshops in furtherance of the work of the organization.

  • Receive, investigate, forward to vendors and ensure vendors close out all vendor related grievances, raised by affected communities, in a timely, fair and consistent manner. 
  • Responsible for receiving and documenting all grievances at the field level and forwarding them to the agriculture development manager.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a relevant diploma in Agricultural Sciences, Agriculture and Agri-business value chains, Environmental Engineering, or Natural Sciences. 
  • Must have a valid motorcycle license & off-road motorcycle driving experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage. 
  • Experience in agricultural and agro forestry development projects.
  • Must have Extensive knowledge of the respective county, with a preference for local candidates.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role or field.
  • Bio feedstock and local content experience is desirable.
  • Previous NGO or private sector work experience in rural development.
  • Must be a native of the respective county  with fluency in local dialect spoken in the county applied for.

  • Receive, investigate, forward to vendors and ensure vendors close out all vendor related grievances, raised by affected communities, in a timely, fair and consistent manner. 
  • Responsible for receiving and documenting all grievances at the field level and forwarding them to the agriculture development manager. 
  • Any other duties as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a relevant diploma in Agricultural Sciences, Agriculture and Agri-business value chains, Environmental Engineering, or Natural Sciences. 
  • Must have a valid motorcycle license & off-road motorcycle driving experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage. 
  • Experience in agricultural and agro forestry development projects.
  • Must have Extensive knowledge of the respective county, with a preference for local candidates.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role or field.
  • Bio feedstock and local content experience is desirable.
  • Previous NGO or private sector work experience in rural development.
  • Must be a native of the respective county  with fluency in local dialect spoken in the county applied for.  

Skills & Abilities:

  • Farmer participatory approaches, project planning & implementation, data collection & analysis, field-level training, communication (both verbal & written).
  • Proficiency in Ms Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of farmer group dynamics and aggregation, marketing strategies, and practical experience with the farmer field school approach.
  • Capacity building farmers for sustainable agri-livelihoods.
