Role Overview
The AI-Enabled UI Designer will create user interfaces for internal applications, design customer-facing digital assets, and establish design systems that ensure brand consistency across AI-generated content. This role works in collaboration with the n8n Automation Specialist and Senior AI Developer to translate business workflows into intuitive user experiences while leveraging AI tools to accelerate asset production and reduce external agency dependency.
Primary Responsibilities
Interface Design for Internal Applications
- Design user interfaces for custom applications built by the AI Integration Developer, including dashboards for secondary sales analysis, catalogue management tools, and workflow monitoring interfaces.
AI-Assisted Asset Production
- Utilise generative AI platforms (Midjourney, Ideogram, Ilus AI, Veo3) and interface design tools (e.g. figma) to produce visual assets for interfaces including product photography concepts, promotional graphics, social media content, and campaign visuals.
Design System Development and Governance
- Establish and maintain design systems that codify Tropical Heat’s visual identity for application across digital properties and marketing materials.
- Create component libraries and style guides that ensure consistency whether content originates from human designers, AI generation, or hybrid workflows.
- Develop quality control frameworks that validate AI-generated assets against brand standards before production deployment.
Marketing Collateral Design
- Design product catalogues, planograms, sales training materials, and customer-facing presentations that support Sales division requirements.
- Produce recipe content layouts, brand campaign assets, and promotional materials for Marketing division initiatives.
- Create templates and design frameworks that enable divisional staff to execute routine asset variations independently.
Web Property Design
- Design microsites, landing pages, and campaign-specific web properties that Marketing teams will deploy using no-code platforms (Lovable, Replit).
- Translate designs into specifications that guide implementation by either the AI Integration Developer or Marketing team members using visual development tools.
- Ensure mobile responsiveness and accessibility compliance across all digital properties.
Required Qualifications
Design Competencies
- Proficiency in industry-standard design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) for interface design and asset production.
- Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, colour theory, and composition principles.
AI Tool Expertise
- Demonstrated capability with AI image generation platforms and prompt engineering for consistent brand outputs.
- Familiarity with AI video generation and audio production tools (HeyGen, Suno AI, ElevenLabs) sufficient to brief and review specialist content.
Technical Collaboration Skills
- Ability to create design specifications that guide developer implementation including annotations, interaction descriptions, and responsive behaviour definitions.
Brand and Communication Understanding
- Experience working within established brand guidelines while adapting for digital and AI-assisted contexts.
- Understanding of FMCG marketing requirements including product presentation, promotional design, and point-of-sale materials.
Preferred Experience
- Background designing for manufacturing, distribution, or consumer goods companies.
- Prior experience establishing design systems for organisations transitioning to AI-augmented workflows.
- Portfolio demonstrating successful AI-assisted asset production at scale.
- Experience designing internal business applications alongside consumer-facing marketing materials.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design principles.
- Understanding of East African market visual preferences and cultural considerations.
