Research Assistant/Coordinator

Applications are invited for the following position: The position The position is in the Department of Human Pathology in the Faculty of Health Sciences. A research team in Kenya, Cameroon, and Canada is implementing an adapted training program to increase awareness of the early warning signs and symptoms (EWSS) of childhood cancer and improve referral pathway efficiency for suspected cases of pediatric cancer. The program is funded for a period of five years. In Kenya, the program will be delivered in seven counties: Embu, Garissa, Machakos, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, and Nyeri. It will include a series of trainings delivered to healthcare workers at various health system levels across the seven counties.

Job Purpose

The candidate will support the program’s daily operations, including management of training and referral data, liaising with the study teams in Cameroon and Canada, and coordinating local activities such as stakeholder interviews and training sessions.

Job Description

  • Support adaptation of training materials, including PowerPoint presentations, pre and post-tests, and visual tools (i.e., infographics, flyers).
  • Support the facilitation of live training sessions and coordinate virtual training activities as needed.
  • Track implementation of the intervention.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all trainees and trainers.
  • Support data collection, including in-person verbal survey administration to patient families.
  • Support stakeholder interview scheduling and facilitation.
  • Monitor and track training activities, including attendance and training completion.
  • Participate in key informant interview coordination and conduct.
  • Assist with data entry, cleaning, and analysis.
  • Undertake other duties as delegated by the supervisor.

Job Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, public health, a health-related field or in project management.
  • Computer literacy (Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, formal email correspondence) and spreadsheet manipulation experience are required.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience with data collection, in-person interviews.
  • The candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to travel to study counties for EWSS training sessions.
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili

Applications are invited for the following position: The position This project seeks to effectively implement an adapted version of the Ghanaian EWSS project that will allow us to provide an evidence-based and context sensitive approach to childhood cancer care, with specific attention to early detection through increased healthcare provider awareness and referral pathways. To facilitate this process, quantitative and qualitative prospective and retrospective data over the duration of this study will be collected. Job Purpose

  • Working under the supervision of the PI in Kenya, Co-investigator, KNH and the Project Coordinators. Will be expected to spend (per week) 20 hours on the EWSS project work and 20 hours on related duties assigned by KNH. He/she will be responsible for tracking the hours worked each month.

Job Description

  • Complete training in the project REDCap database platform
  • Access patients’ files from hospital medical records system
  • Extract relevant data from patients’ files onto dedicated project case report forms Obtain relevant prospective data from files and directly from carers as necessary and complete prospective case report forms

Job Specification

Program Officer, HIV/TB Care and Treatment

The Position The Program Officer, HIV/TB Care and Treatment will oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the HIV care and treatment program across Kajiado County. The successful candidate will work under the Care and Treatment Advisor and will be based in Kajiado County. He or she will collaborate with partners, health facilities, and program staff to ensure the effective delivery of HIV prevention, care, and treatment interventions, with a focus on achieving the 95- 95-95 targets. This role requires a candidate with strong technical expertise in HIV programming, clinical mentorship, and stakeholder engagement.

Job Description

  • Oversee the county’s implementation and monitoring of the 95–95–95 HIV cascade.
  • Work with partners and HCWs to ensure HIV prevention, care, and treatment workplans align to the program goals and objectives.
  • Implement innovative approaches to HIV care, including the integration of HIV services into (MNCH) services, NCD, Family Planning (FP), and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) interventions.
  • Conduct regular site visits to health facilities to provide technical assistance in HIV prevention, care and prevention programs.
  • Provide clinical training and mentorship to healthcare workers on the management of HIV, including pediatric ART, tuberculosis, and other opportunistic infections, in line with the national guidelines.
  • Participate in HIV related meetings, including clinical case reviews and quality assurance sessions, while promoting continuing medical education for healthcare providers

Job specifications

  • A minimum of diploma in either Clinical Medicine or Nursing
  • At least 7 years of experience in HIV care and treatment program implementation, with demonstrated experience in mentoring clinical teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HIV care and treatment guidelines, including PMTCT, ART, and TB/HIV co-infection management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and report-writing skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment; demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and innovative program delivery.
