Communications and Graphic Design Consultant
111Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Lead on Finance and Economy, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties
- Support and contribute to communication activities, events and materials.
- Identify, collate and prepare informative and promotional materials for diverse media,researching different sources of information as required;
- Assist with writing of news articles, newsletters, reports, articles, and concept notes.
- Coordinate the development of graphic design, photo and video editing of outreach, promotion and information material, such as publications, presentations, catalogues, brochures, videos, flyers, infographics and handbooks.
- Review and monitor communication channels and metrics associated with the projects and initiatives;
- Update regularly Our City Plans digital platform and social media content, including news and events.
- Update regularly Flagship Programme Inclusive Communities, Thriving Cities page and social media content, including news and events.
- Support and coordinate the WUF events and collaboration with different partners
- Research best practices for communication and identify the media that fits the projects objectives and purpose;
- Assist and plan activities and events regarding all the projects and areas UN-Habitat works.
Qualifications/special skills
Education:
- First Level university degree in fields related to communication, urban planning and architecture, service design, industrial design, urban design or similar is required.
Work Experience:
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in digital product development, service design, use of no-code development platforms, UX-UI design and digital product research, communications, in collaboration with multidisciplinary work teams is required.
- Knowledge of the 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, Global Public Space Agenda and/or UN-Habitat language is an asset. Experience in international cooperation for territorial and urban development is an asset.

Urban Planning and GIS Consultant
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section, the Urban Lab manager, in coordination with the UN-Habitat Regional Offices and in close collaboration with UN- Habitat thematic Sections, the incumbent of the post will have to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:
- Advise and work with the Urban LAB team to analyze, collect, compile and interpret data to guide and inform Naryn project.
- Support and contribute to the development of methodologies and guidelines on evidence-based spatial analysis to be tested and implemented in the Urban Lab projects.
- Develop planning analytic and diagnostic maps, drawings and related reports for Naryn and other partner cities.
- Develop clear planning proposals, drawings and related reports for Naryn and other partner cities. – Develop critical analysis of existing planning documents and instruments with GIS support.
- Develop training materials for GIS, remote sensing, data analysis, visualization and deliver workshops / training events.
- Develop and organize participatory, multi-stakeholder processes tailor made for the projects in a specific context.
- Provide input to Urban Lab documents and publications.
- Contribute to the development of the Lab and Section project portfolio on technology and innovation.
- Develop papers and methodologies for open-source data platforms for UN-Habitat and Partners.
Qualifications/special skills
Education:
- 1st level university degree in Architecture, Urban Development and Planning, or a related field is required.
Work Experience:
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of sustainable development and spatial analysis (and/or related fields) with direct proven experience of drawing and preparing plan graphical material using computer assisted design tools, with special attention to data management and processing with GIS software is required;
- Direct proven experience of urban planning projects/processes, in combination with e.g. urban resilience, mobility, project finance, and/or data systems is required.
- Experience working in the public sector, e.g. local governments is considered an asset;
- Experience in any of the countries of the projects is an asset; – Experience working on social change projects is an asset;
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (and their monitoring/evaluation) and of the New Urban Agenda is an asset;

Chief of Protocol(Secretary to Governing Bodies & Chief, External Relations and Inter-Agency Affairs)
Responsibilities
Provision of overall leadership to the Secretariat of the Governing Bodies. Specifically:
Serve as Secretary of the Governing Bodies of UN-Habitat including the Executive Board, the Committee of Permanent Representatives and the UN-Habitat’s Assembly:
- Prepare provisional agenda for the sessions; prepare Convocation letters, Notifications, Annotations to the Agenda, rules of procedure, timetable, and documentation.
- Prepare/review all draft pre-session documents before approval of Executive Director.
- Organize work of the session and coordinate work of the conference servicing, including liaising with the Conference Service Departments of UNON and New York.
- Prepare notes for the President of the UN-Habitat’s Assembly, the Chair of the Executive Board and Chair of the Committee of Permanent Representatives on each agenda item for the respective sessions.
- Handle legal and procedural issues arising during the sessions.
- Negotiate with governments wishing to host sessions.
- Follow up on the implementation of decisions of the Governing Bodies and resolutions of the General Assembly and ECOSOC.
Serve as the Chief of Inter-Agency Affairs:
- Develop UN-Habitat’s strategic plan and long-term program of cooperation with other UN organizations/agencies and advise the Executive Director on policy guidance.
- Coordinate the preparation of follow-up actions on decisions taken by inter-agency and inter-governmental bodies in areas relevant to UN-Habitat work.
- Support UN-Habitat Task managers System in fulfilment of key objectives to improve coordinated implementation of its Agenda within the UN system and streamline reporting to ECOSOC and the GA through the UN-Habitat Assembly.
- Monitor governing bodies of the UN agencies and their consideration for human settlement matters and bringing relevant decisions to the attention of the Executive Director.
- Prepare report to the Executive Director on inter-agency/inter-governmental cooperation for submission to Governing Bodies.
Serve as Chief of External Relations:
- Enhance UN-Habitat’s good relationship with governments and their Permanent Missions to UN-Habitat.
- Organize informal briefing meetings between the ED and Permanent Representatives on specific activities of UN-Habitat.
- Prepare briefs for the Executive Director’s official visits and maintain an up-to-date mailing list of Governments and undertake special assignments of political nature.
Serve as Chief of Protocol for UN-Habitat:
- Responsible for all protocol matters during official functions.
- Ensure all official letters to government observe proper diplomatic language and format.
- Lead team members efforts to collect and analyze data and provides insight to identify trends or patterns for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
- Ensures that everyone can discover, access, integrate and share the data they need.

Education

- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable
Work Experience
- A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in protocol in a governmental or international organization, including planning and organizing meetings, dealing with high-ranking/senior official is required.
- Experience in political analysis and diplomacy, or related field, at the international level is required
- Experience in follow-up and implementation of resolutions from high level governing bodies is desirable.
- Experience in managing complex crisis, involving a wide array of national and international stakeholders is desirable.
- Experience devising political strategies for senior-level officials is desirable.
- Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
