Environmental Data Expert
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Under the direct guidance of the Head of the SDG and Environment Statistics Unit, of the Early Warning and Data Analytics Branch of the Early Warning and Assessment Division of UNEP, the contractor will perform the following tasks;
- Regularly monitor the progress of countries on the development of a national source inventory on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment.
- Prepares digital outputs as required, e.g. draft background papers, analyses, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. Support capacity building activities in three countries: Indonesia, Jordan and Burundi. Amendment 01 Support the implementation of the Statistics and Data Project “Resilient and agile National Statistical Systems to meet post-COVID-19 data needs to recover better” under the 14th tranche of the United Nations Development Account (DA14 project).
- This Project is expected to strengthen the capability of NSS of target countries to collect, process and disseminate data and statistics to inform COVID-19 recovery policy and to enhance the resilience and agility of NSS of beneficiary countries to respond to emerging economic, social and environmental data needs in times of crises and disasters through the use of innovative data sources, advanced data acquisition methods and modern technologies, while ensuring a path towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. In particular, the DA14 project supports several countries to strengthen the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting, as well as Climate Change and Disaster-related statistics at the national level. The individual contractor will support capacity building activities in three countries: Indonesia, Jordan and Burundi.
Qualifications/special skills
- High School Diploma is required.
- A Master’s degree in environmental science is desirable. Data science, information science or a related field is desirable.
- At least 2 years of experience in data analysis including experience with environmental SDG indicators data is required.
Finance and Budget Assistant
Responsibilities
PROJECT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Review figures in Project Identification Form submissions. Verify documents for overall accuracy, consistency and uniformity in presentation and ensure comprehensiveness and compliance, cross-check consistency of figures in tables with the text of the reports and verify references to other reports and documents and ensure that all necessary corrections are incorporated;
- Assist in preparation of budgets with respect to project documents;
- Initiate set up of third-party banking details for executing agencies.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION:
- Track circulation of new project internalization and all project revisions through UNEP clearance and approval process;
- Prepare budget documents for budget allocations;
- Review expenditure reports from executing agencies to ensure:
- correct amount and objects of expenditures have been charged;
- validity of charges;
- availability of funds.
- Prepare Purchase Orders (POs) and Fund Commitments (FCs);
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in finance, budget, accounting, administrative services, or related area, is required.
- The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced by two (2) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree.
- Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is required. Experience in financial transactions analysis and reporting is desirable.
- Experience working in an international organization is desirable.
- A minimum of one (1) year or more experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
