Transport Manager – 2 Positions

Reporting to: Transport Manager

Position Summary: Drive unit vehicles and facilitate transport at the site.

Job Specifications:
The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail:-

  • Driving institution vehicles as authorized;
  • Carrying out routine checks on the vehicles;
  • Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;
  • Maintain records of vehicles;
  • Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle;
  • Overseeing the safety of the passengers and or goods therein;
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle;
  • Ensuring adherence to or observations of traffic laws; and
  • Reporting any incidents to the police and/or the office immediately they occur.

Person Specifications Required:
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade of D+ or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Valid driving license free from any current endorsements and valid for any of the classes of vehicles which the officer is required to drive;
  • At least four years of continuous professional driving experience, two of which must be with a governmental or a non-governmental organization.
  • Passed the Suitability Test for Drivers Grade III;
  • Proficiency in computer application; and
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya police;
  • Fulfilling the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Terms of Employment:

  • One (1) year renewable contract.
  • Probation period for the first three (3) months
  • Remuneration: Salary is based on the KEMRI salary scale.

Information Communication Technology Officer

Reporting to: Senior Information Communication Technology Officer
Position Summary:

The ICT officer will be the primary user support officer who will maintain the Institute computer networks, provide technical support and ensure the Institute IT systems run smoothly, as s/he will monitor and maintain all computer systems, install and configure hardware and software, and solve technical problems for users.

Job Specification
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Develop documentation of computer programs according to instructions and specifications;
  • Install and configure computer systems;
  • Maintain application systems;
  • Provide IT user support and train users on effective and efficient use of ICT facilities;
  • Prepare and maintain network documentation and up-to-date equipment maintenance register;
  • Install, configure and monitor Local Area Network components;
  • Assist users in the Active Directory, e-mail server and user applications;
  • Update and maintain the Institute’s website;
  • Maintain and update the ICT Inventory
  • Troubleshoot, service and repair/fix ICT equipment;
  • Performing regular data and application backups.
  • Prepare, review and update IT Standard Operating Procedures
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Person Specifications Required
For appointment to this grade an officer must have: –

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • 2 years of working experience;
  • CompTIA Certification (A+, N+), Microsoft Certifications or Cisco (CCNA) will be an added advantage;
  • Knowledge and experience in IT support or IT Technician role;
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems;
  • Practical experience with internet and network security protocols.

Community Health Worker

Reporting to: Principal Investigator
Position Summary:

The position serves as the POC for all community-related activities and carries out community mobilization for current and upcoming research studies.

Job Specification:

The duties and responsibilities at this level will include the following:

  • Plan and execute community education and engagement that aim to create a researchliterate society.
  • Assist with organizing stakeholder engagement meetings to sensitize, update and give feedback on the research studies to the site’s stakeholders.
  • Survey and assessment of potential mobilization/recruitment sites.
  • Mobilization of the target population to participate in Research Studies.
  • Ensure that the right study population is reached in the community and assess the participant for enrollment as per the protocol requirements promptly.
  • Maintain and update participants’ contact information to ensure retention.
  • Distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Compile and present reports required for different research protocols.
  • Promote other prevention activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants.
  • Provide any necessary Psychosocial Support.
  • Reinforce adherence to study activities.

  • Diploma in the following fields; Community Health and Development, Nutrition, Social work or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;

Driver

Qualifications

  • O-Level School Certificate Grade D+ and above.
  • Valid Driving License class BCE
  • Certificate of defensive Driving Course.
  • Current Certificate of Good conduct
  • Below 45 years of age.
  • At least five years proven experience in handling manual land cruiser vehicles
  • Basic Automotive Mechanical skills and sound knowledge about vehicles
  • Suitability test certificate from Ministry of Roads and public
  • Good knowledge of traffic laws
  • Good eyesight; natural or corrected

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understanding the study design and objectives to assist in the successful implementation of the study
  • Safely driving the vehicles as assigned
  • Ensuring compliance to the road traffic act
  • Carrying out daily routine checks on the vehicle before driving out
  • Ensuring maximum security of vehicle and its accessories under his/her charge
  • Ensuring safety of passengers and cargo under his/her charge
  • Monitoring condition and performance of vehicle and promptly reporting to supervisors
  • Carrying out minor repairs and adjustments on the vehicle, and maintaining their cleanliness
  • Taking vehicle for servicing and repairs as directed by the supervisors
  • Maintaining a transport log for the vehicle
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is used only for study related purposes
  • Updating the study administrator on any incidents or accident involving the vehicle on the same day
  • Picking up and dropping off the study visitors
  • Submitting reports on vehicle movements and mechanical conditions as requested.

  • First Aid at Work Certificate from St. Johns Ambulance /Red cross
