Nutrition Officer
Summary of position
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Program Manager the incumbent will be part of the team implementing various nutrition interventions geared towards improving maternal and child nutrition of deprived communities in Isiolo county through strengthened nutrition resilience, enhanced health system strengthening and improved evidence based advocacy The Nutrition Officer will work closely with several line ministries (Health, Agriculture, and Water), National Drought Management Authority and health and Nutrition Partners in the County to continually improve the health and nutrition status in the County through implementation of emergency and resilience nutrition interventions.
The incumbent will work closely with the Nutrition Manager, program staff, S/CHMT members to ensure that program activities are implemented on time, on scope and within the budgets as stipulated in the various program and project documents.
Purpose:
To support the implementation of nutrition project interventions in Isiolo Counties that are geared towards addressing acute malnutrition among vulnerable populations through a multi-sector integrated approach.
Essential job functions
Support to Health System Strengthening efforts at the County level.
- In liaison with the County MOH and Partners develop joint work plans for key activities as stipulated in the project document.
- In liaison with the MOH undertake periodic capacity assessment across the health facility staff and structure OJT and Mentorship sessions to the health facilities based on specific needs.
- Work closely with the MOH and undertake classroom training to County teams on various aspects of the nutrition program to enhance program implementation
- Participate in coordination meeting at the County level with the MOH and Partners including NITWG, CNTF, CSG and any other.
- Coordinates with the other nutritional NGOs, UNICEF, WFP, other partners and MoH at County and Sub County level
- Support development of County work plans with the S/CHMTs and schedule joint supervisions to enhance quality programming
- Support community Health Strategy and Community Resilience activities
- In liaison with the Community Strategy Focal persons at the County and Sub County level, support CHS activities at the community level including community dialogue and action days, sensitization sessions for community members among others
- Work closely with MOH to offer technical support and sustain Mother to mother support groups for improved MIYCN practices.
- Support MOH to develop ,implement and monitor Social Behavior Change Communication Strategies in Isiolo County
- Support the MOH to develop a practical community feedback mechanism geared at improving service delivery at the County level.
- Supports the nutrition team in the implementation of community approach through regular contact and exchange with the community leaders,
Reporting and Program Development
- Compiles program reports on a timely basis in liaison with other program staff; Weekly SitRep, Monthly(statistical and narrative), Quarterly
- In collaboration with the Nutrition Program Manager prepare progress reports, quarterly donor reports, proposals, Program reports project procurement plan and contributes to survey reports.
- In collaboration with Program Manager and coordination team; contribute in defining technical strategy when required.
- Participates in the analysis and drafting of activity reports and evaluation of the project.
- In liaison with the program manager develop project proposal to address County specific gaps
- Support MOH focal persons on information, data management and reporting through the DHIS
- Participate in the planning, organizing and implementation of surveys, assessments and research studies including post distribution monitoring
Information exchange and cooperation with all Action Against Hunger interventions and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with all other Action Against Hunger departments and sectors to ensure the projects are integrated
- Collaboration with other Partners, MOH (S/CHMT), INGOs, NGOs, CBOs and the UN working in this area to ensure smooth running of projects.
- Work in collaboration with the communities and local leaders at all stages of project implementation
Finance, Logistics
- Prepare cash forecast in liaison with the other program staff in line with the work plans
- Ensure the expenditure is as stipulated in the budget lines and strict adherence to the budget limits
- Propose anticipated budget realignment in line with field realities
- In liaison with the Program Manager and the Filed Coordinator Monitor budget spending in line with spending plan; ensure diligence in grants utilization including timely spending and value for money.
- Support the Program manager in monthly budget reviews and suggesting amendments to Finance
- Any other roles as assigned by the supervisor
Education and experience:
- Required qualification: Degree in BSC. Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Public health nutrition option, nursing and any other related course.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in a similar position
- Registered with Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute
Required Skills & Competencies
- Conversant with the HiNi Package
- Experience in training of health workers and Community Health Volunteers on various nutrition modules.
- Experience in nutrition counseling to caregivers and community
- Experience in conducting community dialogs
- Language skills: English and Kiswahili fluent

Deputy Field Coordinator
Summary of position
The Deputy Field Coordinator – Programs shall lead and monitor the implementation of programs at the field level, with the support and collaboration with the MEAL focal person, technical leads at National level and Program Managers at field level, and under the supervision of the Field Coordinator, Monitor potential program delays or hindrances and timely report to Field Coordinator, suggesting corrective measures considering Programme team inputs and BFU recommendations. The Deputy Filed Coordinator will collaborate with the Field Coordinator, technical Head of Departments, and M&E to design new proposals; also ensuring that field inputs from Program teams are timely received by the field coordinator and technical coordination team. Also, ensuring the implementation of technical recommendations from internal audit, experts, consultancies, and Head of Departments. The Deputy Field Coordinator-Programs will represent Action Against Hunger at various coordination platforms in the county in the absence or with the delegation of Field Coordinator.
Purpose:
The deputy field coordinator programs shall oversee all the aspects of program management cycles from identification of the needs, business development, project planning and implementation and evaluation to determine success in achieving project goals. To achieve this, the DFC programs will manage program team at the base level to ensure quality project implementation. The DFC programs will forge for an integrated programing in all sectors in bid to address the nutrition issues in the areas of operation. He/she will also ensure coherence of approaches between the different programs for better outcomes. The deputy field coordinator participates in external sector meetings and supervises the budget follow-up of activities

Program Coordination and Management
In coordination with the Field Coordinator, ensure that all programs are implemented in compliance with the Action Against Hunger technical standards, country, international and donor guidelines.
- Ensuring the timely and proper provision to the FC of all relevant internal program-related reporting documents requested from the Field Office.
- Providing regular updates to the Field Coordinator and technical HoDs on program implementations
- Monitoring the implementation of the Action Against Hunger Charter and prevention of frauds or abuses of power and informing the Field Coordinator when needed
- Providing capacity building and coaching to Program staff on project management best practices
- Lead in ensuring quality and timely implementation of projects at field level. Identify new program opportunities in collaboration with the field team, field coordinator, and capital program staff.
- Support the integration of program activities to create coherent, quality, and complimentary programming focusing on the integration of projects/program

Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Lead in the writing of the weekly, monthly, Quarterly semi-annual, and annual internal and donor reports. According to the organizational and donor guidelines.
- Work with FC and MEAL manager to develop a monitoring and evaluation plan as per Action Against Hunger guidelines and follow up on its implementation. Ensure appropriate MEAL activities are carried out regularly by program staff in all sectors (data collection & analysis, monitoring of project progress against established work plans, monitoring of established indicators, and utilization of results to inform program design).
- Review activity reports of staff and provide necessary feedback to the staff
- Contribute to designing technical strategy and country strategy.
- Work closely with the field team and the Nairobi to include advocacy in the documentation of key activities, development of lesson-learned documents, and other related advocacy issues
- With technical support from the MEAL manager, ensure accurate and quality MEAL tools including M&E plans, Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP), and Indicator tracking matrix for the program in place and utilized
- Work closely with the Field Coordinator and MEAL manager to effectively support the program to carry out all assessments – baselines, assessments, designs, monitoring, and evaluations – in accordance with donor requirements and GOK and ACF established standards, policies, and procedures.
Finance and logistics management
- In the absence of field, the coordinator supports the team-
- Work with program officers to develop project budgets, and spending plans based on the activity plan
- Closely with the program teams to monitor project expenditure against stipulated deliverables and budget agreements/donor guidelines.
- Coordinate monthly review meetings based on budget follow-up from finance departments and advise where necessary
- Closely liaise with the base admin and finance and logistics department to follow up on expenses
- Oversee the financial management of field office operations by the finance staff, including cash management, issuing and tracking advances, ensuring compliance with Action Against Hunger finance policies and regulations
- Conduct and monitor risk analysis, including the development of security planning.
- Ensure field weekly movement plans are in place and coordinate with the logistics and finance department on purchase orders, cash forecast, and BFU/PFU on a monthly basis.
- Works closely with logistics and administration to ensure timely delivery of supplies.
- With the Action Against Hunger logistics and security focal persons and relevant government departments at the field level lead in the implementation of security procedures to ensure the safety of beneficiaries at the project sites, AAH staff at the field and those visiting the base.
Human Resource and Administration management
- Provide technical guidance to Field Coordinator for effective day-to-day program implementation
- Staff management of program field staff including identification of staff training needs, staff supervision, capacity building, and follow-up.
Required Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Bachelor of Science (Foods, Nutrition, and Dietetics), or Public health, Project Management or any other related degree. A master’s level will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years of field experience in humanitarian relief and/or development programs and 2 in management level.
- Previous experience in coordination and representation, working in ASAL, challenging, insecure areas is desirable. Experience managing Nutrition, Health, RRM, and FSL, WASH will be desirable too.

WASH Officer-Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion Officer
Summary of position
The WASH officer shall take charge of technical aspects of hygiene and sanitation promotion interventions under the supervision of the field coordinator and Deputy Field Coordinator programs. S/he shall be responsible for planning, implementation, (technical oversights), monitoring and evaluation of high quality, innovative Hygiene and Promotion interventions.
Purpose:
Wash Officer-Hygiene and Promotion will be responsible for the daily implementation, monitoring, and regular consultation with program partners on hygiene and promotion interventions. Ensure linkage, synergies, and complementarity with other sectorial interventions, i.e. Nutrition, Food security, and livelihood as well as proper coordination, consultation and information sharing with partner’s communities and other stakeholders.
Essential job functions
Planning, design and implementation of Hygiene and Sanitation Interventions.
- Design the contents and methodology of the Community Hygiene and Sanitation mobilization campaign as required by the project.
- Prepares detail implementation plan, monitor and follow up the timely implementation of activities;
- Work with the county public health and community health strategy focal person in facilitating and providing various trainings to community hygiene and sanitation promoters and monitors who will include the Community Health Assistants (CHAs), Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs).
- Provide technical advice for community hygiene and sanitation promoters and monitors at the community.
- Lead distribution of WASH NFIs (water containers, hygiene item and water treatment chemicals)
- Monitors and follow-up to ensure the proper dissemination of hygiene and sanitation messages to the target beneficiaries;
- Collect, analyze and compile reports from hygiene and sanitation activities and propose better implementation strategy in consultation with the WASH Manager
- In coordination with Program Manager, Monitoring and evaluation officer and county teams, design and conduct all baseline assessments, KAP surveys, and follow-up assessments with concrete feedback findings.
- In coordination with MEAL and WASH PM undertake/take part in quantitative/qualitative assessments to identify key risky hygiene behaviors to work on and to capture key achievements within the framework of project/s,
- In coordination with MOH, ensure proper implementation of hygiene and sanitation components of WASH projects within allocated budget and timelines.
- Support planning and implementation of community mobilization activities (using; community-led total sanitation and any new methodology that may be introduced and appropriate.)
- Provide technical support to communities in the construction of appropriate and context specific household latrine
- Provide support to the distribution of hygiene items, and conduct monitoring and follow-up to ensure proper usage of items and appropriateness.
