Quality Control Coordinator (Construction Sites)

We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Control Coordinator on behalf of our client to oversee and ensure the implementation of quality control processes at various construction sites across Kenya. This role will involve verifying that all project activities adhere to the required quality standards, supporting vendor audits, coordinating with contractors, and facilitating third-party certification processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure that the requirements of the Project Quality Plan are fulfilled during project execution, maintaining technical integrity at all stages.
  • Test Selection & Interpretation: Collaborate with project teams to support the selection of quality control tests and interpret test results in line with approved engineering and construction codes.
  • Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs): Review and approve Contractors’ ITPs to ensure they comply with the project’s engineering and construction codes.
  • Quality Control System: Implement and continuously monitor the Project Quality Control System, ensuring that all quality inspections are performed according to approved Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Reporting & Data Collection: Collect and report data from quality inspections and test results, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation.
  • Continuous Assessment: Ensure proper reporting of quality control data and support ongoing assessment of contractors’ quality capabilities and performance.
  • Coordination & Resource Management: Coordinate quality control activities (inspections as per approved Quality Control Plans) and manage resources (Quality Engineers and Inspectors) on construction sites and in workshops.
  • Inspection Verification: Validate welding, concrete, and painting inspections performed by contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Actively participate in site construction meetings between the company and contractors, ensuring alignment on quality control objectives.
  • Vendor & Contractor Audits: Review and comment on contractors’ and vendors’ quality plans and procedures, ensuring adherence to company standards. Conduct technical audits as required.
  • Critical Issue Reporting: Provide timely and detailed reports to management on QC-related matters, identifying and advising on critical issues as they arise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5years hands-on experience in quality assurance or a similar role in construction for the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Professionally qualified quality system certifier (preferred), showcasing expertise in maintaining quality standards and certifying systems in compliance with international regulations and industry best practices.
  • Accreditation in key QA/QC Codes and Standards, such as CSWIP, ASME Sections V, VIII, IX, B31.1 & B31.9, AWS D1.1, NACE, and ISO 9001, validating comprehensive knowledge and adherence to global quality standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of Civil Quality Control, Welding of Structural Elements, and Piping, ensuring that construction and manufacturing processes meet the required quality benchmarks.
  • Significant experience with HSE Risk Analysis and Job Safety Analysis, demonstrating the ability to manage safety risks, ensure compliance with HSE standards, and implement effective mitigation strategies during construction activities.
  • Familiarity with system development and implementation processes, including audit and certification activities, business integration, and ensuring customer satisfaction through the effective delivery of quality systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).

Electrical & Instrumentation Construction Superintendent (Oil and Gas)

We are seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Construction Superintendent on behalf of our client to oversee and monitor the activities of contractors at various construction sites within Kenya. The superintendent will be responsible for ensuring that electrical and instrumentation works are executed according to project specifications, budget, and relevant safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure execution according to the project schedule, identifying deviations and recommending corrective actions.
  • Verify compliance of construction works with contract scope, project specifications, and procedures.
  • Coordinate between vendors and contractors to ensure smooth execution of electrical and instrumentation works.
  • Certify the progress of works and relevant quantities (daily/weekly/monthly).
  • Prepare weekly construction progress reports validated with project baselines for communication with the project management team.
  • Participate in site construction meetings between the company and contractors.
  • Review and comment on site procedures and work practices as necessary to meet project requirements.
  • Provide technical input to resolve site constructability issues using expertise in construction.
  • Ensure HSE procedures are followed during construction, mitigating risks and ensuring safe execution of tasks.
  • Report any near misses, unsafe acts, or incidents to project management.
  • Certify the mechanical completion and commissioning activities on-site.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Instrumentation and Automation Engineering for construction in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Extensive experience in mechanical completion and commissioning of process control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), ensuring timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE risk analysis and job safety analysis, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with safety standards on all construction sites.
  • Familiarity with construction and commissioning works related to instrumentation, telecommunication systems, and associated infrastructure, ensuring smooth and compliant project execution.
  • Solid understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Control (PLC), and SCADA systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively during the commissioning phase.
