Agricultural Officer

Qualifications:
Requirement for appointment For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have
- Bachelors of Sciences [BSc.] degree in any of the following fields: Food Science, Home Economics, Agriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agribusiness, Agriculture Extension, Agriculture Education, or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Certificate in Computer Application Skills from recognized institution.
Director Veterinary Services
Duties And Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:- preparing project proposal for resource mobilization in animal health; preparing and implementing work plans and budgets; preparing technical reports and managing animal health information and dissemination to stakeholders; planning and coordinating implementation of projects and programmes in Animal Health and Welfare; participating in formulation and review of animal health policies, strategies and laws; coordinating management of Veterinary Farms, quarantine stations and sentinel herds; and planning monitoring and evaluation of Animal Health programs.
Qualifications:
For appointment to this grade, an officer must: –
- Have served in the grade of Deputy Director Animal Health in the public service or a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
- Have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: – Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, Animal Health Management; Animal Production, Animal Production and Health Management, Environmental Health Sciences, Livestock Economics or Health Extension from a recognized institution;
- Have Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines (Added advantage); Animal Production, Animal Breeding, Animal Nutrition and Feed Sciences, Environmental Science, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Poultry. Science, Apiary Science, Aquatic Science or Wildlife. Health and Management from a recognized institution;
- Registered by the Kenya Veterinary Board;
- Have certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution; and
- Have shown merit and outstanding administrative capability and professional competence required in managing animal health services.
Veterinary Officer – 2 Posts
Job Summary:
This will be the entry and training grade into this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer to undertake disease control activities such as disease search, vaccination and enforcement of livestock movement regulations; participating in the training of stakeholders in vector control programmes; treating sick animals; advising on good veterinary practices; collecting’ data and preparing reports on animal health, products and markets; providing advise on animal breeding and welfare; and undertaking postmortem examination and other diagnostic tests.

- This will be the entry and training grade into this cadre. Animal Health Assistant – 3 Posts
Job Summary:
This entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail: carrying out simple treatment of animals; participating in disease search and reporting; demonstrating on milking techniques and external parasite control techniques such as dipping, spraying and dusting; carrying out vaccination; and undertaking closed castration, dehorning, de-worming, disbudding, docking, debeaking and hoof trimming.

This entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail: carrying out simple treatment of animals; participating in disease search and reporting; demonstrating on milking techniques and external parasite control techniques such as dipping, spraying and dusting; carrying out vaccination; and undertaking closed castration, dehorning, de-worming, disbudding, docking, debeaking and hoof trimming.
Qualifications:

Livestock Production Assistant II – 2 Posts
Job Summary:
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail collecting data and information, doing extension work during farm visits and farmer trainings, participating in field days and agricultural shows that disseminate livestock production technologies and carrying out practical demonstrations on livestock production technologies and techniques.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail; Irrigation systems site in the County; Design and develop BQs for irrigation dams, pans and pipelines; Carry out identification of suitable irrigation sites in the County; Design feasibility test of irrigation water and soils; Calculate crop water requirements for various irrigated crops; Any other activity related to irrigation in the County
