Deployable EIE Preparedness, Anticipatory Action and Rapid Response

- To respond to the growing unmet needs in emergencies and to strengthen the speed, quality, relevance and appropriateness of our emergency response and readiness work, we are investing in our humanitarian deployable capacity.
- The Deployable Education in Emergencies (EiE) Specialist is a member of Plan International’s Global Education in Humanitarian Action Unit. While on deployment the specialist provides technical support to Plan International’s Country Offices (COs) This normally involves responding to medium and large-scale emergencies to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate EiE programmes. This role will have a specific focus on preparedness, anticipatory action and rapid response in education. When not on deployment the specialist contributes to Plan’s EiE workplan as agreed with the team. This may include continued follow up from a distance with deployment countries.
Deployable Education in Emergencies Specialist (Integration with CVA modalities)

Deployable Child Protection in Emergencies – Sexual Violence Specialist
The Opportunity
- The Deployable Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) – Sexual Violence specialist is part of the global Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPHA) unit and is deployable for up to 75% of time. As such, the CPiE-Sexual Violence specialist will have both global responsibilities and in-country responsibilities during deployments.
- At a global level, the Deployable CPiE-Sexual Violence Specialist will be responsible for the global roll-out of Plan International’s humanitarian sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) programming framework and other key resources across global, regional, country and national offices. The Specialist will represent Plan International in relevant global fora related to child protection and gender-based violence (GBV).
- The Deployable CPiE-Sexual Violence Specialist will deploy to priority emergencies (Orange 2 and Red level) to lead the CPiE response programmes and ensure that approaches to address SGBV against children and adolescents are embedded in Plan International’s humanitarian response.The Deployable CPiE-Sexual Violence Specialist is expected to lead resource mobilisation for CPiE including GBV funding, and provide hands-on technical support to child protection and other sector teams as well as implementing partners in the country they will be deployed to.
- The Deployable CPiE-Sexual Violence Specialist is responsible for ensuring quality SGBV emergency programmes, including prevention and comprehensive response services for child survivors of SGBV, with simultaneous consideration of medium- to longer-term scenarios. The Specialist will need to take a very active role in technical coordination, support and advocacy with the country-specific child protection and GBV coordination groups and other stakeholders and technical agencies relevant to the sector.
Deployable MHPSS Specialist

- The Deployable Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Programme Specialist is a member of Plan International’s Global Education in Humanitarian action unit. While on deployment, the specialist provides technical support to Plan International’s Country Offices (COs). This normally involves responding to medium and large-scale emergencies to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate humanitarian MHPSS programmes. This includes providing technical leadership and support on programme strategy, strengthening the capacity of staff and partners on MHPSS, and ensuring the overall technical quality of Plan’s MHPSS programming in line with humanitarian standards. Plan International’s MHPSS programming focuses on group activities for child and adolescent well-being, focused psychosocial care and support, including for parents and caregivers, and strengthening access to specialised mental health services. Plan International implements MHPSS programmes directly as well as with implementing partners and service providers.
- This role will have a specific focus on MHPSS programming, with key interventions firmly embedded within or linked to humanitarian response programmes for child protection in emergencies (CPiE), education in emergencies (EiE), food security and nutrition (FSN) and other life-saving assistance. When not on deployment, the specialist contributes to Plan’s global humanitarian workplans for CPiE and EiE as agreed with both global units. This may include continued support and follow up from a distance with COs after a deployment.
Deployable WASH in Emergencies Specialist

- To respond to the growing unmet needs in emergencies and to strengthen the speed, quality, relevance and appropriateness of our emergency response and readiness work, we have recently created four new global humanitarian capability units, including the new Hunger Response and Resilience Unit, under which the food security and livelihoods portfolio is located.
- The WASH Specialist will be part of the Global Rapid Response Unit in the Global Humanitarian Team. The post holder will work with technical teams within the other four units, other teams, departments, Country Offices, National Offices within the organisation to ensure that all Plan International’s work contributes to strengthening live saving interventions through WASH in addition to Food security, nutrition, livelihood, child protection, education in emergencies in an integrated manner.
- The WASH Specialist will be required to be deployed to Plan International Country Offices for 75% of the time for a period of up to three months continuously, sometimes into hostile/crisis settings at short notice to provide technical assistance to country offices.
- This position demands technical knowledge, training experience, and work experience in a wide range of humanitarian contexts.
- As WASH Specialist you will ensure technical soundness of the WASH interventions in the Hunger and other humanitarian Crisis response covered by the Plan International.
- WASH interventions will cover both standalone water, sanitation and hygiene programming and, critically, also the integration of WASH within other elements of Plan’s life-saving intervention including Food Crisis response such as food distribution, school feeding, nutrition, in addition to education and child protection and care in health facilities as a fundamental pre-requisite for maximising the effectiveness of these interventions.
- In collaboration with Country Offices, regional management and National Organisations you will advise and support high performing country teams to improve their WASH intervention approaches, strategy and practice, ensuring specific WASH/GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion) outcomes are included, and explore WASH and integrated programming related funding opportunities, ensuring accountability for meeting targets, and maintaining alignment with the Plan International global strategy.
