- An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university;
OR
- Master’s degree in relevant discipline (for special cases outlined on MKU teaching staff appointments and promotions guidelines, 2020) with 3 years teaching/industry/research experience;
- Expected to have registered for a PhD degree in the relevant discipline.
- At least three (3) years teaching experience at university level;
- At least 24 publication points of which 16 should be from refereed scholarly journals
- Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in the day-to-day activities in the journalism studios and laboratories.
- Setting up, testing and operating equipment to suit any audio-visual production.
- Guiding students in their practical undertakings.
- Providing technical support during outdoor recording.
- Operate equipment to mix, combine and edit audio-visual productions.
- Ensure smooth functioning of the internet in the studio and laboratory.
- Monitoring the quality of productions for students’ projects and for broadcast.
- Recording and directing productions during events.
- Explore new ICT tools for maximizing effectiveness of the studio activities.
- Servicing, maintaining, and repairing studio equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance of all studio equipment including networking.
- Regular supervision and maintenance of computer and related accessories.
- Maintaining studio inventory.
- Supervising students’ practical sessions.
- Participating in maintaining the general safety of the studio
- Performing other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Chief Laboratory Technologist
Education, Skills and Experience
- in the area of specialization
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience at the level of Technologist.
- Computer literacy
OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant area of specialization
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience at the level of Technologist.
- Computer literacy

Duties and Responsibilities
- Deputize the Principal Laboratory Technologist where necessary in all technical matters of the department.
- Organize procurement Requirements, installation, usage, maintenance, depreciation valuation and disposal.
- Initiate and execute research activities in the department in collaboration with the academic staff.
- Participate in curriculum development in the department.
- Supervises Staff under their section.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
