Fire Protection Systems Technician

DEPARTMENTFACILITY INVESTMENT
POSITION REPORT TO:LEAD, FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs maintenance on fire protection systems to ensure safe, reliable, uninterrupted fire protection service.
  • Maintains, inspects, and tests fire protection systems to operate as designed.
  • Corrects all fire protection system deficiencies immediately upon discovery.
  • Inspects and tests electrical devices, electronics alarm components.
  • Tests and maintains radio alarm transmitters for daily automatic test signals, receiver processor consoles, signal recording devices, initiating, and signaling circuits, water flow, detectors, manual pull stations, and thermal and ionization detection, actuating and indicating devices.
  • Performs manual and automatic actuation of gaseous extinguishing agent for carbon dioxide systems; tests hose reels or flooding systems; and dry chemical expellant gas and foam concentrate systems.
  • Conducts flow tests of fire suppression systems such as electric motor drive and diesel engine driven fire pumps, sprinkler systems tested include wet pipe, pre-action, fire hydrant, standpipe and other associated fire protection equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, inspection and lubrication services on equipment and machinery in accordance with published schedules and instructions.
  • Performs testing, operation and maintenance of all automatic fire protection including pumps, controls, and annunciation based on maintenance manual procedures.
  • Records services performed and conditions found on service card or work order forms.
  • Identifies worn and or failed parts: orders and replaces.
  • Reassembles unit; installs necessary seals and gaskets.
  • Ensures assembly is within specified tolerance.
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing applicable P.P.E. and promotes safety awareness in the shop.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Foreman, Carpenter

OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Superintendent, manage a team of Carpenters to erect, install, and/ or repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, or wallboard. Understands Building Codes and the use of Carpentry hand and power tools. Understands blueprints, sketches, or building plans to derive information pertaining to understanding the requirements of the structure or fixture to be fabricated.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and provides input to identify key success factors for the Carpentry crew.
  • Provides leadership to cause the creation of organizational structure and processes required to fully execute the requirements of services and is responsible for the execution of Carpentry services, quality, subcontractor performance, and construction cost.

OVERVIEW:

Lays building materials, such as brick, structural tile, concrete/cinder, glass, gypsum, and terra cotta block to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports to and receives assignments, instructions, and direction from the Foreman.
  • Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities.
  • Measures distance from reference points and marks guidelines on working surface to lay out work.
  • Spreads soft bed (layer) of mortar that serves as base and binder for block, using the trowel.
  • Applies mortar to the end of the block and position the block in the mortar bed.
  • Taps block with the trowel to level, align, and embed in mortar, allowing the specified thickness of the joint.
  • Removes excess mortar from the face of the block, using the trowel.
  • Finishes mortar between brick/block with a pointing tool or trowel.

Storekeeper

DEPARTMENT: SDSC – Galley

POSITION REPORT TO: Supervisor, Warehouse

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides means for security, cleanliness, receipt, issue, and pest control of the dry provisions warehouse(s), cold storage warehouse(s), and the chill storage warehouse(s) to ensure it meets the minimum standards established in NAVSUP P-486.
  • Completes inventory validity worksheet for 40-line items validity checks (20 dries, 10 frozen, 10 chills) when required or at least monthly.
  • Prepares rough and smooth inventories.
  • Smooth inventory sheets as the last of each accounting period using NAVSUP Form 1059, Food Item Report/Master Code List.
  • Enter last receipt prices, extend the values, total each page, and recap the total.
  • Makes inventory adjustments when necessary.
  • Posts gains, losses, transfers, and consumed items to NAVSUP Form 335, Subsistence Ledger.
  • Performs various checks and balances to control inventories by using spot, breakout, and storeroom accurately.

  • Computes subsistence endurance-based by using prescribed endurance levels (75 days) basic endurance levels (45 days), operating levels (30 days), ordering and shipping times (21 days) to establish high and low subsistence levels.
  • Receipts all items of subsistence received as to quantity and quality.
  • Checks all fresh and vegetable spoilage, dairy products for date of pack and expiration, and dry goods for signs of infestation.
  • Remove, isolate, or put on medical hold any obvious or suspected spoilage or damaged food items.
  • Must be able to work in extremely cold temperatures (- 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below) and stand for long periods.
  • Practices FIFO (First In – First Out) procedures.
