What is the UN Talent Pipeline?
The UN Talent Pipeline is a capacity-building programme designed to help professionals from developing countries that are considered unrepresented or underrepresented within the UN Secretariat increase their readiness for UN career opportunities. Through targeted training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, this programme will strengthen your job applications and enhance your competitiveness in the UN recruitment process. By joining, you will contribute to a more diverse UN workforce in the future.
This strategic initiative is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China through the Trust Fund for UN Peace and Development. It directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 16.8, which calls for broader and more inclusive participation of developing countries in institutions of global governance. The initiative aims to build a robust pipeline of qualified candidates from unrepresented and underrepresented developing Member States.
What will You Gain:
- Comprehensive Training : Tailored workshops and capacity-building sessions designed to help you navigate the UN recruitment process with confidence.
- Mentorship and Networking : Access to a network of UN professionals who will guide and support you in your career development journey.
Are You Eligible?
- Mid-career professional from a United Nations Member State considered as developing and unrepresented or underrepresented
- Hold a Master’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience (or seven years with a Bachelor’s degree).
- You have an educational background that aligns with the talent pipeline you are applying for.
- Have at least an intermediate level of English in all four areas (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
**Current UN Secretariat staff members are not eligible to apply. However, personnel from UN Funds, Programmes, and Specialized Agencies may apply, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.

Choose from the nine specialized job families and apply today—but remember, you can only apply to one pipeline at a time.
Participation in the programme does not require any financial commitment from either side. However, once accepted into the talent pipeline, members must fully commit to completing a structured training and capacity-building programme, requiring approximately three to five hours per month over a three to six-month period. The training will include a combination of self-paced learning and instructor-led virtual group webinars. While participation in the programme does not guarantee employment within the UN Secretariat, the skills and knowledge gained through the training may enhance candidates’ competitiveness for UN positions.
