Purpose
The Department for World Service (hereafter referred to as World Service) is the humanitarian and development arm of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF)
Located in the Department for World Service, the purpose of this position in the Policy and Thematic Team is to support the International Programs and the Policy and Thematic teams with high quality and relevant communications materials (including dynamic & attractive materials, relevant narrative and statistical information, as well as fact sheets on strategic programmatic and thematic areas).
It will also support the WS Global Funding Team in its capacity to attract new donors for LWF World Service by developing high quality fund raising material tailored to new and potential donors (e.g. Country Fact sheets). The post holder is the World Service focal point for the Office of Communications on broader WS communication matters including the website and the annual report.
Required Qualifications
Degree, either from a university or a higher diploma from a professional school in graphic design, journalism/communication, marketing or international relations with proven graphic design capability.
Additional Study and Experience
- Young professional with ideally 2 years of professional experience in the production of marketing and reader-friendly communications materials.
- Experience with the production of short videos including editing.
- Experience in website design, in graphic design (Indesign, Photoshop and others). They have to be proficient in MS Office Suite applications.
- General knowledge on humanitarian and development interventions.
- Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of French is an added advantage.

Position environment and Dimensions
Internally, as a member of the Policy and Thematic Team and supporting the International Programs (IPT) and Global Funding Teams (GFT) mainly interacts with field staff in LWF World Service Country Programs / Emergency Operations, with Geneva based Regional Program Coordinators, with the Office for Communications on outputs, visual identity, messaging and alignment with LWF communications/SoP.
Externally, little interaction
Main duties:
Fund Raising Materials (30%):
- Design and develop dynamic and attractive fund raising materials (including online and printed materials) tailored to meet the needs of attracting new donors for LWF World Service (including Foundations, private/corporate and other).
- Liaise with Country Programs / Emergency Operations to collect information on donor trends in-country, on sectors of intervention and on-going projects to facilitate fund raising.
Country Program & Emergency Operations Thematic Fact Sheets (20%):
- Design attractive 1-2 pager Fact sheets, which includes gathering the information and content for each fact sheet.
- Develop fact sheets for the strategic programmatic areas (Quality Services, Livelihoods, Protection/Social Cohesion) and for other relevant organizational areas as required.
Other (15%):
- Prepare specific visibility web materials on new funding opportunities, participate in training workshops, PowerPoint presentations and other support roles.
Other communication, website and visibility related tasks: (30%)
- Maintain at regular intervals (quarterly and half yearly) the WS sub site ensuring information is up to date
- Coordinate with the field based communications focal points to ensure WS Country program websites are managed and maintained.
- Monitor the use of social media platforms in CPs for fund raising and profiling/promotional purposes.
- Input as needed on the WS Annual Report
Other Policy and Thematic related work (5%):
- Including developing Policy briefs, one pagers and power points.
